One of the perks of being a former beauty queen is getting invited to be a judge at beauty pageants!!!
Since winning the Ms Young Philippines in 1981, I have had the honor of being a judge in pageants all over the nation: from Ilocos, to Cebu and all the way down to Zamboanga. But I am particularly excited about the Bb. Bulacan 2009 because it will be my first time to judge a pageant as a blogging beauty queen. My toes are curling at the thought!!!
Bb. Bulacan, under the wings of pageant organizer Chiki Francisco, is the longest-running pageant in the province and has produced national Beauty Queens like Bb. Pilipinas Universe 2004 Maricar Balagtas and Ms Philippines Earth Water 2008 Michelle Oblea and Ms Philippines Earth Fire 2006 Diane Cervantes.
But this year will be markedly different: Bb. Bulacan will be combined with the other famous Bulacan pageant – The Lakan and Lakambini ng Bulacan. Local government officials combined both pageant so that the province would have one official pageant under the Office of the Governor. The Honorable Jon-Jon Mendoza currently sits as Governor of Bulacan.
Since both pageants have been combined, they have a new title for it: La Bulaquena Pageant!
This year there will be 4 winners: Bb. Bulacan, Mutya ng Bulacan, Lakambini ng Bulacan Turismo and Ms Bulacan Earth. These four winners will be Bulcan’s entries to the Philippines’ top national pageants.
This year’s panel of judges includes: Ms International 1979 Melanie Marquez, beauty-queen maker and choreographer John de la Vega, Mutya ng Pilipinas President Roberto de Vencia, Bb. Pilipinas World 1996 Daisy Reyes, Ms Covergirl 2006 and Mutya Ms Talent 2009 Katrina Lopez and MOI!!!
La Bulaquena Pageant will be held on the evening of September 12, 2009, Saturday, at the newly constructed Capitol Gymnasium in Malolos City. I hear that it’s a fully-airconditioned venue with a two-thousand seating capacity. This will be ONE great adventure for the blogging beauty queen!!!
Thanks to John de la Vega for all the information!!!
