This is how I thought the Top 3 would be:
Gwendoline Ruais, Ma. Venus Raj and Krista Arrieta Kleiner.
However, my favorite girl Gwendoline did not make it and I think it was mostly because of her disjointed Q&A. She also did not shine as much on the Araneta stage compared to when I saw her first at the Talent show in Ali Mall.
My two other favorites did extremely well: Ms. Venus Raj won Bb. Pilipinas Universe and Krista Arrieta Kleiner nabbed Bb. Pilipinas International . Also disappointed that my sentimental favorite Laurese Ann Caparas did not enter the Top 10. I felt she should have been included. Was also sad that the lovely Selena Antonio was left out of the Top 10.
I think most people agree that the Bb. Pilipinas World winner, Czarina Gatbondon was a dark horse. Although she was in my Top 8, I did not expect her to win a title. However, I think she clinched it when she decided to answer the Q&A in Pilipino. She was the only one to opted to do so.
The question was something like: If you could live your life again, what would you be? And she said, in very nervous Pilipino, that she would like to be a tree to give shade to people. She kept it short and sweet and I think that THAT was pretty smart. Sayang lang, she could have delivered it with more conviction and confidence. Oh well, we’ll just have to trust that beauty queen trainer Wilma Doesn’t will give her extra public speaking sessions to prepare her for the Ms World pageant.
ERRATA: Got this correction from Yorkboy (go to comments section to get the full comment):
Czarina’s response to the question given to her was – if she was given another chance to live, she would rather be a tree that sustains us all with life (“buhay” in Tagalog). Just a small correction on your blog post when you said “shade” (you might be thinking she said “bahay”).
Here is a link to youtube if you want to playback her Q&A portion.
None of the girls really gave memorable answers (except for the tree answer mentioned above) BUT there were no extremely bad answers either – AND LET’S ALL HEAVE A CORPORATE SIGH OF RELIEF !!!
So, are you HAPPY with the Bb. Pilipinas 2010 Winners???

Bb Pilipinas 2010 WINNERS!!! L-R, 2nd Runner-Up Helen Nicolette Henson, Bb. Pilipinas International Krista Arrieta Kleiner, Bb. Pilipinas Universe Ma. Venus Raj, Bb. Pilipinas World Czarina Gatbondon and 1st Runner-Up Dianne Necio

Hmm I am happy but… please also visit this blog. Thanks.

Well, the pagent is not that competetive, girls are just fine but their looks are not stunning. I think the pagent should conduct and search more girls every region and not only concentrating in Manila. I believe that the Philippines has a lot of islands which is an opportunity to discover and put the country to the crown of beign beauty title holders like what Puerto Rico, Venezuela , Japan, and Dominican Republic are doing. I bet the girls would’nt make to thw crown they’re not competitive and I guess they should do more rehearsals and more beauty queen tips….
Ms Amelia Vega….
Former Miss Universe
Hello Amelia, thanks for the comment!!! Yes, maybe we need to conduct a more thorough search
not all areas of the Philippines have the chance to join our big pageants…
gotbaton looks like zora andam in this pic i agree she was a darkhorse, i was surprise she got one of the crowns but its ok, her innocent look and natural charm exudes last night
Anish, I too feel the same way. Didn’t expect Czarina to grab a major title but am happy for her – she REALLY was shocked to get the World title and she told me exactly that during the victory party… her innocent happiness at achieving the unexpected was SO refreshing!
I love your blogsite Ms.Joyce very informative.Just to let you know i was a fan of you in your era at the Bbng.Pilipinas.I admire how youve move on your life from a former Beauty Queen/model to a happily contented woman.
Your New Zealand blogs were very informative~Luv it!
My take on these year winners are just a bit Ok.I was rooting for Henson,Necio and Ruais.Although i like Raj i wish she was sent to the Ms World Pageant.
Kudos and Take care always

Maki, thanks much for visiting and leaving your thoughts behind!!!
Ako din, thought Raj would make Ms World.PH but it’s nice to have a kayumanggi beauty take the Universe spot.
So how is Austin, Texas? Lurrrrv your career!!! Hobby ko ang make-up
and have always toyed with the idea of becoming a make-up artist… kaya lang, my path is taking me elsewhere so I just focus on improving my make-up techniques for meself…
I felt that Dianne should’ve been given a crown. She could very well represent our country in Miss World or International.
Many already told me that they felt that the placings were a bit wrong.
About Czarina Gatbonton, I was surprised she won as well. I guess even she was surprised. But I see where BPCI is coming from in crowing her. She has the potential that given the months ahead, if she is receptive, she could do wonders. I just have to disagree with her height though. She’s about 5’5″ or 5’6″ and not what was initially announced. You could find it obvious in the photos since Venus is 5’9″.
Have a wonderful week ahead!
JP – wow, didn’t notice the height thing. I had photos taken with Czarina, I have to look at them again. I thought Venus was taller than 5’9″ because that’s my height but Venus seems to be taller than me. Didn’t really ovserve carefully though during the victory party of the winners.
Dianne IS GORGEOUS and would be a great representative for the country I agree. She should join again. Yeah, I also feel like the placings were slightly off, but it’s there na and we need to focus on getting the girls ready for their respective international competitions… thanks for you thoughts JP!!
I so agree. Right now, the limelight is on Czarina. It’s not the same as the spotlight on Janina San Miguel in 2008, but let’s face it, people were surprised by her win.
I don’t think we should devote our time in questioning why she won. Like what you said, the decision has been made. Let’s just support her in her preparation for Miss World.
Hi miss Joyce….love always reading your blogs…just send my regards to Helen if you happen to catch her..she’s truly a beauty queen before the eyes of her fans…
Also, if you happen to meet and able to chat to Miss Stella Araneta if she could consider the help of well known designer Michael Cinco for the gowns of our winners…coz many fans were dis appointed of Miss Bianca’s gown last year at the Miss Universe…thanks po
Hello there! Maraming supporters talaga si Helen, AS IN! I think she should join again, don’t you? Si Ms Stella, I’m not really close to, unfortunately… but yes, that gown last year was not the best. Many agree that we need to get our best Pinoy designers and not a South American to dress our contestants…
thanks fo miss joyce,,, i hope someone closer to ms. stella na i recommend mga gowns ni michael cinco instead of that south american designer..we have plenty of world class designers. and every year…i think the gowns of our candidates pulled their chances to enter the semis.I’m looking forward to see helen join again the Bb. pilipinas…
What can you say po about czarina gatbonton chances upon seeing her in person?
PJ, when i first saw Czarina in La Bulaquena last year, she was very inexperienced, did not stand out, and as a result did not enter the Top 5. However, John dela Vega’s training seems to have WorKED. Czarina has had tremedous growth and improvement in posing, smiling, walking, etc.
But it’s kulang pa. I think her challenge will be in communication – i don’t think she’s comfortable speaking English. But then again why can’t the Philippines have a contestant who requires a translator in her international pageant? Other international contestants don’t speak English or don’t speak it well and they still compete and even win.
Also, I want to see if Wilma Doesn’t can whip this girl further. There is still a lot of time to improve further…
thanks po again, ms. joyce..it seems you’re having a great time now in thailand…maybe it’s about time to have interpreter for our contestant if they are not equipped with einglish language i think if czarina chooses to speak english during Q&A, she might end up Janina San Miguel’s the 2nd..lols…what she did is brave enough to show her determination…
How about the other 2 winners namely, venus & krissa mae? ,i guess..they are almost ready for international competition…
I think BCPI, is doing great job…based on the remarkable changes they had this year..Hope this will continue till our winners take the centre stage of international arena…
Thanks po Ms. Joyce and God bless
Venus was one of my choices and so was Krista. Venus is so exotic and mysterious looking and I love her look. However, who cares about what I think, when it’s the taste of Donald Trump that matters? LOLOL!!!
Si Krista needs to make sure she stays focused and maybe work on her Q&A more. Her command of English is great but she has room to grow in the area of communication. More work too on her walk and posing so she can move more like a queen rather than a fashion model.
All three winners can also improve in the physical department – gaining some muscle and toning up.
I had a thought today – dapat lahat ng judges natin ay bakla or beauty queen or make-up artist. Hahahaha! What do you think?

As for Krista’s answer, I think she answered her question very well. She showed that she had knowledge about world affairs and how she could contribute to the Philippine society. I thought it was excellent, and the best answer for the night! I think she should’ve taken the Miss. World title. But then again, that’s just my opinion.
Venus Raj, I didn’t like her answer so much. However, she looks brilliant, she seems humble and she looks the most elegant among all the candidates.
Hi Yorkboy! Thanks for the correction:) will note it in the article… Venus, for me, was the most stunning that night, I agree. And I’m very glad that although her answer wasn’t exactly the best, she managed to get through it looking elegant. Now the next hurdle will be training for Ms U… exciting!
Dear Ms. Joyce,
I have seen how Czarina grow and transform into a lady. She is indeed very simple with deep inclination of the Filipino language for it is the primary dialect used in our island. She maybe fortunate to had the chance to enter college thru her parents’ hard work (father is a fisherman and mother is aday care worker) while most of her friends were OSY’s.
Coming back from the Araneta experience, it is truly overwelming to see her compete and tried to be composed although we saw her being nervous too many times. Her determination to finish the task well is commendable. She may not had delivered the best answer, but she gave an honest to goodness answer by being true to herself and to her dialect.
Wishing that Czarina can have the best training possible and may she bring home the first Ms. World crown for our country.
All the blessings to you Ms. Joyce!
Rex
Rex, I SO AGREE with you. I was one of the judges during the La Bulaquena last year that Czarina participated in. What a butterfly she has turned into! Not that she wasn’t pretty before; she just blossomed after lots of training under John dela Vega. And if she can bring us our FIRST EVER Miss World Crown, that would be amazing! But I did love her answer and thought it was the most ‘queenly’ answer of all. It was just the nervousness that got distracting. So tama ka talaga, more training is needed. I’m excited for her!
[...] I think the choice to speak in her native tongue gave her extra points even if she was awfully nervous and stilted. To paraphrase it, Czarina’s respone was – if she was given another chance to live, she would rather be a tree that sustains us all with life. Although I haven’t seen the pageant I could see the blaze of fire in this hot issue re Czarina crowned as a beauty queen. In a real world it’s a really hard to belong to “mahirap, kayumanggi at hindi marunong magsalita ng english”kahit sa sariling bansa nating minamahal, PILIPINAS. However what Czarina did was the best. Filipino should realize that it’s a great feeling to let the world know that people like Czarina, like you and me has God given talent and uniqueness. That when a question was thrown to her she was able to grasp what was being asked and she was able to deliver her prompt response in a “native filipino language”. This must be the kind of response some of the judges had been longing to hear. In short we need to be proud that Filipino could actually communicate in a brief, clear and spontaneous response. Having said that, my idea of using our sariling wika in world class competition like this or in the future would draw attention to everyone that Filipino are really strong and super smart people who could standout anywhere and everywhere.
Marigold, I agree with you. Tagalog (or Pilipino/Filipino) is SUCH a beautiful language and I wish I could speak it more fluently. Seems like I’m stuck in Taglish purgatory with no heaven in sight.
At the very least, I comprehend (almost 100%) deep Tagalog and am in love with the cadence of it. I too long to hear the language spoken and spoken well…
[...] question that I and Pinoy pageant fans have been asking. If you remember, Czarina Gatbonton was the only candidate in the Bb. Pilipinas 2010 beauty pageant to answer her question in Filipino. i really want candidate #13 that time…she was so sexy and beautiful and the height was amazing….i hope she will join again this binibining pilipinas 2011…
another thing is….bakit kailangan pa ng binibining pilipinas magpagawa ng gown sa ibang bansa para sa candidate natin eh ang dami naman excellent designer sa pilipinas….example micheal cinco…..
My sentiments exactly. Filipina beauty queens should be wearing Filipino-made gowns!
if diane necio could read this……..please try your luck this binibining pilipinas 2011……..i see miriam quiambao in you……i believe you also have a big chance in international pageant specially miss universe…..
Yes Diane should join again. We’ll see soon enough if she does!
