Getting really nervous now as I put on my face for tonight’s Bb. Pilipinas Beauty Pageant. I am wearing a bright orange and white Hawaiian gown to the BIGGEST pageant in the Philippines. I know that orange, white and Hawaiian sound horrible on print but wait til you see me tonight…
Anyway, all I could think of today was what my friend (and beauty pageant fan) Eton Bonifacio said on Facebook: today is like Christmas day for all gay Filipinos (most likely he meant male gays, LOLOL) and so I wished him a Merry Christmas!!!
But kidding aside, Eton was very sincere in making that comment; I have discovered, after keeping this blog about beauty pageants and beauty queens for a little over a year now, that a big chunk of my readers are not lustful men but homosexual guys who get all starry-eyed when women are dolled up to compete for who’s prettiest.
Beauty Pageants are like THE HORSE RACE of the year for the average gay guy. They will choose thier top bets and get into a nasty word war with those who choose differently. Gay guys also TREMENDOUSLY enjoy picking on beauty contestants, finding faults that the average Joe or Jane would have NEVER ever noticed.
So, my dear pageant loving fans, tonight is THE night we will find out which three ladies will carry the three crowns: Bb. Pilipinas Universe, Bb. Pilipinas International and Binibining Pilipinas World. My top three candidates are Gwendoline Ruais (Universe), Krissa Arrieta (International) and Venus Raj (World).

Alright, it’s almost 2 in the morning and I am back home after watching the FASTEST ever Bb. Pilipinas Coronation night. For the first time in two decades, the pageant ended BEFORE midnight!!! Right after the pageant, we celebrated the victory party of the Bb Pilipinas 2010 winners in the Gazebo of the Araneta Coliseum.
Although I was happy that it was over fast, I felt like this pageant wasn’t as bongga as last year. The reason for the shorter pageant was that Bb. Pilipinas held a pre-pageant for the first time ever, a week before coronation night. That’s where they held the swimsuit and the long gown competition.

Very deserving Venus Raj! Back in 2008 when she became Ms. Eco-Tourism at the Miss Philippines Earth Pageant, I told my friends that she could be a fierce representative for Miss Universe…I was right!

JP, you should,ve! I am as friendly as a Labrador puppy. My daughter was the one who chose what I wore that night. Was choosing between a formal Filipiniana thing and the wild orange Hawaiian get up. She wanted bright and I think it worked out to my advantage bec everybody noticed me FAST! LOLOL!!!
Venus REALLY stood out on coronation night. She outshined my favorite Gwen. Sayang si Gwen – she stood out during the Talent show when all the girls paraded on stage in Ali but, coronation night was Venus’ night and she DESERVES the Universe crown.

i heard from the tv news tonight that ma. venus raj was dethroned as bb. pilipinas-universe 2010 and she will be replaced by nicollete henson as philippines representative to ms. universe 2010 pageant. I’m searching the news over the internet to know more about the details but still not available.

Having endured public controversy on account of her late-registered Birth Certificate and then bravely overcoming it to recover her beauty crown from BPCI in time, MVRaj could have answered WBaldwin better by saying:
“One big mistake I may have made in life was omitting the inelegance of my complicated origins when I competed for the Binibining Pilipinas beauty crown. I corrected the mistake by personally declaring a sad truth about my humble international beginnings. Happily, doing the right thing when it became due worked things out wonderfully and so, thank you so much to my family and friends for all the love and support, for here I am tonight with audacity of hope to try to win as Miss Universe 2010!”
Considering that exotic and regal MVRaj was No.3 in swimsuit and No. 5 in gown (on same averaged rank with Miss Australia), do you think she would have made a different result? Still, making it to the Top 5 is already big honor by itself! Congratulations, Miss Raj!
Good question. I am not sure if a ‘better’ answer would have given her a higher ranking. But I feel she should have gotten a higher ranking in the gown competition…

The 50th Miss International 2010 Coronation Night was held earlier tonight at the Sinchuan Provincial Gymnasium, Chengdu, China. Out of the expected eighty contestants, sixty-eight graced the event which had its Live Telecast in CCTV. The new Miss International 2010 has been announced and Miss Venezuela Elizabeth Mosquera is the new Miss International 2010. Miss Thailand is first runner-up while Miss China placed second. Miss Philippines Krista Arrieta Kleiner made it to the Top 15 and also got the Miss Expensive and Miss Talent special awards. Below is the list of Top 15 Finalist and list of Special Awards.
