Ma. Venus Raj Goes Ahead with Training for Miss Universe
The very thing I have been praying for – a healed relationship between Ma. Venus Raj and Bb. Pilipinas Charities Inc. – seems to have been granted. In this Manila Bulletin article released today, Venus is quoted as saying that everything is now ‘okay’ between her and BPCI. (I am glad that the same publication that published that infuriating report on Ma. Venus Raj skipping training came out with a positive report.)
Her training starts tomorrow, April 19, 2010, but that doesn’t mean that she is officially reinstated as Bb. Pilipinas Universe 2010. She still has to work on getting a valid Philippine passport.
I am so blessed by this news and praying hard that things are truly on the mend between Venus and BPCI. When I visited Venus’ Facebook today, I was heartened by her status which read:
A pure heart is a forgiving heart. Have a blessed Sunday…
Meanwhile, Team Venus on Facebook and other reports confirm that 2nd Runner-up Nikette Henson is being trained by BPCI just in case Venus cannot be sent to represent the Philippines in the Miss Universe 2010 Beauty Pageant.
Nikette Henson was announced as the replacement when Bb. Pilipinas dethroned Ma. Venus Raj.
While the news that Nikette is also being trained (SEE BELOW) might antagonize Ma. Venus Raj fans, Venus has repeatedly asked her supporters to stop attacking Nikette online. The two girl have remained close friends throughout the whole brouhaha and Ma. Venus Raj continues to stand by her statement that Nikette Henson has nothing to do with her dethronement.

So, may you all have pure hearts and a blessed Sunday

On the other hand, poll and audience favorite Venus Raj may have thought out her answer to William Baldwin in native language (Tagalog) and then voiced it in second language (English). Psycholinguists will confirm that a non-native speaker, even if intermediate in level, may hardly be able to respond with spontaneous eloquence in second language during a time-sensitive, public situation. The hard lesson learned here is that, even if a Philippine beauty candidate can speak English, she should opt to avail of interpreter service, as how Miss Mexico did. After all, Miss Universe is not a public speaking contest — it’s a beauty contest! Still, making it to Top 5 in hand-me-down gowns was no minor, minor feat. So here’s my sincere “MAJOR, MAJOR CONGRATULATIONS TO MISS RAJ!”
But now that I have had time to think it over, I think her major major response in English is a blessing in disguise. Here is my reasoning:
1. Venus was behind Mexico and Jamaica in the scores. M and J were the top 2 for both the swimsuit and gown competitions. Venus was number 3 in the swimsuit and 5 in the gown. So even if she gave the best answer, she would still have become 2nd runner up at best. Click here and scroll down to see scores.
2. Her Major Major answer was the talk of the town in the US, several news companies picked it up and made stories on her answer. Miss Mexico did not get that kind of attention!!!
3. It gave all of us Pinoys something cool to talk about (in the aftermath of that terrible hostage incident) and of course, the more you talk about someone, the more famous they become.
So, for me, mas maganda ang fourth runner up and talk of the town than 2nd runner-up and no one’s talking about you. Diba? Bongganga Bongga in a major major way!!!!

I believe Ms. Venus Raj shall win the Miss Universe because of humanitarian cause. I pray she must obtain the Miss photogenic and practice the Q&A from the board of judges. A stronger prayer to get the third crown for the sake of our country.
I really hope she gets to represent the Philippines in the Miss Universe contest this year. She is a breath of fresh air versus all the mestizas we have been sending. With the proper training in Q&A and let’s hope she gets to read a lot of current & world events pertaining to women & their role in the digital age, she might just clinch for us our 3rd crown – after 37 years! She might just end the drought.

Thanks God that she and her camp have turned their modd to a reconciliatory one. That press conference she and her lawyers called last week where they demanded that BPCI drop their condition for BPCI to retain Venus was a big turn off for the silent majority who may not have been vocal in her support but nevertheless was sympathetic in her plight.
Both camps – Venus’ and BPCI are at fault in this big bruhaha. I hope lessons were learned by both. The big loser had not both camps met at neutral ground would have been Philippine pageant fans who saw Venus’ Miss Universe potentials and the belief in BPCI’s cause as the most legitimate Phil pageant franchise.
All’s well that ends well? I really hope this is it. I had enough of both camps playing hard knuckles at each other.
Chona, it does take two to tango, you’re right about that… and it is getting tiring. Sana talaga the worst is over and bright days are ahead so we can all focus on the next big pageant – The Miss Philippines Earth!
