Top 5 in Miss Universe 2010, L-R : Mexico's Jimena Navarrete, Australia's Jesinta Campbell, Jamaica's Yendi Phillips, Ukraine's Anna Poslavska and THE PHILIPPINES' MARIA VENUS RAJ!!!
So many lovely beauty queens from 83 different countries competed in Madalay Bay, Las Vegas, USA for the Miss Universe 2010 crown on August 23, 2010. It was telecast live on ABS-CBN2 in the Philippines. Here is the complete list of winners and my commentary on the biggest beauty pageant on the planet:
Opening Number:
Great presentation of National Costumes, lots of feathery false eyelashes and spray-on panty hose! The girls didn’t do their introductions live, they had them pre-recorded. Loved the inserts of backstage rushing, candidates partying and shots of Mandalay Bay and Las Vegas.
Lots of fierce girls!!!!
Even the live dance number after they featured all the National Costumes was awesome, they put the best dancers in front.
I like the hosts. Bret Michaels had cool eyeliner on and his lady host Natalie Morales could have joined the Miss Universe right there and then!
TOP 15
1. Puerto Rico, Mariana Vicente (missed her!!! argh)
2. Ukraine, Anna Poslavska (missed her too, this sucks)
3. Mexico, Jimena Navarrete (my pick! the hotness that is Mexico!)
4. Belgium, Cilou Annys (oh wow, the flag treader, unexpected!)
5. Ireland, Rozanna Purcell (yes, one of my picks!)
6. South Africa, Nicole Flint (yes, radio chick in my list!)
7. France, Malika Menard (I told you she’d make it!)
8. Australia, Jesinta Campbell (hmmm… missed her too.)
9) Jamaica, Yendi Phillips (we’d know she would make it!)
10) Russia, Irina Antonenko (yes, in my list!)
11) Albania, Angela Martini (I knew it!!)
12) Colombia, Natalia Navarro (yahoooo!)
13) Guatemala, Jessica Scheel (one of my last minute picks!)
14) Czech Republic, Jitka Valkova (rock chicks rule!)
15) Venus Raj, PHILIPPINES (oh my GOD!!! I can’t believe it, THANK YOU LORD!!!)
Boy, we barely made it, Venus’s look was classic when they called her name last!!!!
Presentation of Miss Universe 2009:
Love Miss Universe 2009 Stefania Fernandez’ thick hispanic accent! She is prettier now than when she won Miss Universe 2009!!! She greeted her country in the short live interview she had with the hosts.
Presentation of Judges:
Nikki Taylor still beautiful. William Baldwin looked sleepy. Chynna Phillips also looked sleepy. Evan Lysacek, I can’t think of what to say about the pro-skater. Tamron Hall was pretty in her gown. I love this guy Chazz Palminteri, one of my favorite character actors, can’t believe he’s judging Miss Universe! Jane Seymour was ageless as ever. Criss Angel, the magician looked absolutely like Antonio Banderas. Sheila E looked like a beauty queen herself!
Presentation of Video on Vegas and what the contestants did there!
I like… great way to sell Las Vegas becasue it featured things to do in and around Vegas, OTHER than the casinos! Yes Las Vegas is truly the greatest playground on earth!!!
Swimsuit Presentation!
Buti nalang they didn’t ask the girls if they wanted to do this part topless, LOLOL!
Anyway, they had groovy purple bikinis with flashy square spots with sheer tapises! I definitely prefer this year’s presentation to last year’s! Seeing lots of gorgeous abs… Cirque de Soleil performed in this portion and the live song they did bouncing and the fake Elvises ROCKED! I didn’t know there were so many of them who could break dance!!! Viva Las Vegas!!!
Venus Raj ROCKED! She had the most glorious smile in her swimsuit, panalo siya with her 22 inch waistline and regal smile
Evening Gown Presentation:
John Legend on Piano being circled like mermaids by the Top 10 in their gowns is TOPS! I love the jazzy song choice; looks like class is coming back to the Miss Universe!
Beautiful presentation of evening gowns with each girl talking in an inset video about thier outfits:
Ireland, Rozanna Purcell – Her lips are too thick and distracted me. If they are natural, what can we do? But if they’re botoxed she might want to STOP!!! Ireland was in a body-hugging silvery gown. I have to say she looks like Anglina Jolie’s sistah! Very feminine.
Albania, Angela Martini – I’m seeing a beautiful white gown with silver accents and diamonds. At least she said it had diamonds.
Philippines, Venus Raj - She was like a walking silver fir tree! The bow on her upper right chest felt so Christmassy
She looked like a winner in this segment with an extra-long silvery train behind her.
Jamaica, Yendi Phillips – After all the whites and silvers, Jamaica wears the first blue shiny gown. I just didn’t like that her shoulders weren’t exposed! But she has the sexiest hips in this batch of winners.
Mexico, Jimena Navarrete – Ahhhh… sensual in Red… flowing like Venus’s gown. But a with shorter train and less regal.
Ukraine, Anna Poslavska – Wore a gold boob-squishing dress. Ukriane kept her walk simple and feminine minus any fierceness at all.
Puerto Rico, Mariana Vicente – Walked in a lilac silvery number with big bow on the back that made her look like a pretty little wedding cake figurine.
South Africa, Nicole Flint – Ganda talaga ng face! She was in a dark blue gown. But she said it was purple, so I guess the lights on stage messed around with the colors.
Guatemala, Jessica Scheel – This 20 year old is the youngest looking in the group. She could Miss Teen Universe if there was such an award and if she were just a teenager. I liked her gold gown… it had a regal collar that still showed off her shoulders. And squished-up boobs!
Australia, Jesinta Campbell – I liked her gold gown that featured hints of bue and lavender. But it looked a little loose on her waistline. Maybe she lost weight during the contest?
Miss Congeniality
The hospitality of Australia wins this round! Congratulations to all my Ozzzie friends!!! Miss Australia Jesinta Campbell looked really happy to win this award!
Winner of Best in National Costume and Miss Photogenic
Thailand takes both awards this year!!! Fonthip Watcharatrakul was one of my choices and she had one of the more unforgettable National Costumes that REALLY made you think: THAILAND! But she didn’t look too happy. I don’t blame her; I too would rather be in the magic circle of semi-finalists.
Oh, Thailand looked like she was avoiding host Bret Michael’s kiss and was trying to bow, hahahaha! She’s Thai and I guess beso-beso is not part of her culture, someone should warn future Miss U hosts about things like this… hehehe…
Top 5:
Mexico, Jimena Navarrete (my pick)
Australia, Jesinta Campbell
Jamaica, Yendi Phillips (my pick)
Ukraine, Anna Poslavska
Philippines, Venus Raj (OMG!!!! Can’t believe it!!!)
Question AND Answer:
These are not super complete transcriptions guys, I just did my best to type FAST:
Mexico, Jimena Navarrete used a translator. Judge Evan Lysacek asked – In your opinoion what is unsupervised internet use having on the youth? Answer: Buenas noches. Las Vegas! I do believe that the Internet is an indispensible and important tool for these times. But we must be very careful and watch what our children and teenagers watch and see and teach them values in our families so that they may use the Internet properly.
Australia, Jesinta Campbell got Judge Nikki Taylor who asked – Around the world there is legislation banning certain kind of religous clothing and this has caused controversy. What role shoule gov’t play in this? Answer: The greatest thing we have is freedom of choice. And tonight we wore our swimsuits, designed by Tala who says fashion is freedom. government shouldn’t have a say in what we wear because we should be free to make our personal choices
Jamaica, Yendi Phillip – Judge Tamron Hall asked her – Some countries still practice the death penalty. Is this acceptable to you and why? Answer: I believe that life is a gift given by one ultimate creator and humans don’t have the right to take a life. We have no right to control of what is God’s.
Ukraine, Anna Poslovska – Anna used a translator. Jane Seymour asked her – Many airports are now using full body scanners. How do you feel about going thru a scanner that can see right through your clothes? Answer: This is a very important question of security. To avoid the type of catastrophes that we are well aware. So if that heps us to save the lives of people then I’m for it!
Philippines, Venus Raj got judge Willaim Baldwin who asked – What is one big mistake that you’ve made in your life and what did you do to make it right? Answer: Good evening Las Vegas! In my 22-years of existence there is no major problem that I have done in my life because of my family. Thank you so much.

Miss Universe 2010 Winners' List « Adventures of a Beauty Queen…
I found your entry interesting do I’ve added a Trackback to it on my weblog
…
hi miss joyce
thanks for the review its awesome…say venus answered this way:
“…on of the biggest mistake of my life would have to be the discrefancies of my birth certificate. as many people know i was stripped-off my ms philippines title few months back because of the irregularities of my birth records…but because of the help of so many people i was able to rectify the mistakes and was able to prove that i am indeed a filipino citizen who is worthy to represent my beautiful country and humble filipinos in this year’s most important pageant…”
should she remembered her birth records and relate it…should she have placed higher or win it all?
nevertheless im so proud and happy of her answer and placement…
thank u sooo much!
Hey Dondie, that would have been a great way to bring out her story on dethronement… and reinstatement.
REWIND THE SHOW GUYS!!! Take twoooo!!!
Hey Dondie, remember that the question is “What is one big mistake that you’ve made in your life………..”. Regarding the discrepancies in her birth certificate? It was not her mistake coz she’s just a baby then. It’s not her that made the mistakes but her parents.
whoah! Tenks for the detailed result and what happened on Ms. Universe this year. I wasn’t able to watch it coz I was in the office here in Hanoi that time! xin chao!
Thanks Deck
it was fun for me…
Agree with Dondie.
To be perfectly honest it occured to me at the time (instantly, no kidding)) she was asked the question by William Baldwin that developing an answer along the lines of correcting the discrepancies in her birth certificate, etc. would be a perfectly good answer; must say, I felt a bit of a jolt when instead, she came down hard on the “I’ve not ever done anything major to warrant correcting…” sort of answer.
I thought William Baldwin’s question was almost a leading question, i.e., he was making it easy for her (almost). It sounded to me like an emotion-charged question which if answered adequately could capture the judges and the audience hands down.
Anyway, it’s done! Bottomline is Ms Raj is one of the universe’s 5 most beautiful women. Good on her and good on the Philippines.
Bravo to her and bravo to the Philippines! Toutes mes félicitations…
Oui, félicitations a Venus!
wala ako masabi kay Venus nung swimsuit round na. Nangabog sya talaga. She made the stage burning with her superb catwalk..This time ibinigay nya talaga best nya and with the evening competition eventhough that her gown is not really that beautiful with her grace and poise she made it look expensive. hahaha. I salute her so much effort she gave during the pageant… Sana bigyan sya nang bonggang welcome party/parade like nung kay Miriam.
Sendo, I thought she was sizzling too! So I was kind of surprised that Ukraine got a higher placing because I found her a little matamlay. But I’m not complaining really, Ukraine is beautiful and I am overjoyed that Venus brought a bright spot to the country after that terrible hostage taking drama…
I think next pageant is Ms World? Im so excited for Czarina Gatbonton. wala ako pakialam if ever gumamit sya ng interpreter… I’ll support may kababayan Go Czarina.. Go Bulacan….
Ireland should have been in the top 5. It was a no-brainer. She had it all. She really looks like a version of a young Sophia Loren.
Venus did a great job. The thing is that she competed fiercely and a catwalk queen, yet still was herself and still warm and very Filipina. She never sold out or tried to be something she’s not.
Her final question was a mistake. It is one of those “if you could change your past” questions. They need to stop allowing this kind of question in pageants! I also think it’s time for two rounds of questions, and the final question is the same one for each woman – with a sound-proof both. Overall, it is too clear that the judging process at MU is not natural and fair. Too much going on and I hardly think the final night panel is really judging and selecting.
Jose, I really appreciate it when people give their honest opinions without calling people names or being catty. I SO wish there were more people like you
^^ during the post-top6 pageant format, they did used to have two rounds of questions up until a few years ago. They need to bring this format back.
I think I prefer using the same question for every girl. Makes it easier to judge.

They should have done the usual practice of putting the contestants in a sound-proof booth and giving everyone the same final question!
That surely makes it easier to judge and is more fair than giving each girl a diff question.
