ABQ just recieved news that the 99-year-old grandfather of Mutya ng Pilipinas Intercontinental 2010 Carla Lizardo passed on yesterday after being trapped in a terrible fire that razed his home. Carla’s grandmother made it safely out of the burning house.
Carla’s Mom informed me that they will no longer pursue the Miss Intercontinental beauty pageant as the whole family is still dealing with the shock of it all.
I guess this means Ashley McGarry will be taking her place – her name and photo are listed in the official website of Miss Intercontinental.
I just have a question – Ashley McGarry was listed down as the official Philippine representative on the Miss Intercontinental website way before the Lizardo tragedy happened. But Ashley is the Asia Pacific winner. Did the pageant organizers really intend to send her to Intercontinental and not Carla? I tried texting someone from Mutya regarding this a few days ago but got no response.
Anyway, it seems fate has stepped in and closed a door for Carla Lizardo. But there is a window of hope – we might still see her next year in Miss Earth or Bb. Pilipinas. We’ll just have to wait and see…
In the meantime, the best of luck to Ashley McGarry, may you carry the Philippine sash well in the Miss Intercontinental in Dominican Republic. I know you will represent us well!
And to Carla Lizardo and her Mom Chat, I am so very sorry for your loss. My heartfelt condolences to you both and to your entire family. My prayers remain with you.
The wake is being held at the Holy Trinity Memorial Chapel in Paranaque.

So morbid… Btw, read my stand on RH Bill issue http://chester2278.wordpress.com/2010/10/02/my-stand-for-rh-bill-and-catholic-bishops/
sorry for the loss, anyway the fate seems to correct all my thoughts during the mutya 2010. i was rooting ashley to win the top title and be our representative in miss intercontinental, which is for me the deserving grand slam pageant than miss tourism queen. she was already a veteran of so many pageants. she was a semi finalist of the top model of the world, same organizer of miss intercontinental! i hope that she will be the 1st miss intercontinental from our country! ms. joyce , can u feel it? 2010 is a glorious year for our country in pageantry, just like i 2005.! we have a lot of semi finalist in minor int’l pageants and a 4th runner up in miss u. can u pls post all the semifinalist and placers and awardees for this year’s pageant? thank u po
Kristoffer! That is an excellent idea – I did not think of it. But the year isn’t over yet and we still have a few pageants to go through but yes, I will make a compilation of 2010 winners by year end
– Ashley is indeed a very strong candidate for the nation although Karla would have been a great – but we just have to trust that fate will always have it’s way and in the end, not one thing happens on this planet with God’s go signal
IM JUST HAPPY AND EXCITED MISS JOYCE!hehe! cant wait to read your compilation! thanks
I worked with both of these girls for the most part of this year’s Mutya ng Pilipinas competitions. They’re both elegant and intelligent young women. I wish them both the best of luck. Condolences to Carla and her family. This is just the beginning of a long and beautiful career for both of them.
Thanks much for your comment
both girls are beautiful and worthy of their crowns!!!
