Congratulations to Gwendoline Ruais for an AMAZING First-Runner Up performance at the Miss World 2011 beauty pageant in London! She came in second to beauty pageant powerhouse – Venezuela!
Although I was fast asleep because I had to be OK and Beautiful for work today, I was updated by my good friend Lex Librea, thank you so much for the effort, I truly appreciate it!
Gwendoline Ruais now becomes the 2nd Filipina to place the highest with Evangeline Pascual being the first. I know many hardcore Filipino pageant fans who have been following Miss World for ages are frustrated since the Philippines hasn’t won the Miss World crown yet, but I am thrilled to the core, ANYWAY, because for me Gwendoline Ruais went so far AND brought our nation honor and pride!
Congratulations too to Miss World Philippines Directress and Franchise Holder Cory Quirino for a successful run for our very first Miss World Philippines beauty contestant. You and your team of beauty experts did a great job with training Gwendoline Ruais!!!
I am proud to say too that I was one of the judges on the screening committee that helped choose the final contestants for the first Miss World Philippines beauty pageant which Gwendoline Ruais eventually won. It feels good to be a part of her victory there and as a result, her victory now!
Also, congratulations to the Ruais family, specially Gwendoline’s Mom – all the hard work you put in to support your daughter through this journey has paid off!

[...] French Filipina Gwendoline Ruais is 1st Runner-up in Miss World 2011!!!!! (adventuresofabeautyqueen.com) [...]
When I commented in the Dianne Necio Miss International post, I said that we all wished for a crown today.
We did naman eh, the tiara-esque mini crown on Gwen’s head. Korona na rin iyun.
At first, I didn’t like her. I wanted the pretty and charming Nikette Henson to win, she ended second. IMHO, her looks seemed a bit…masculine…(i’m sorry) to me. This isn’t bashing, yun lang first impression ko. In time, I learned she was beautiful in her own right (naks naman! :>). She was tall, malakas ang “dating”, good body, model-like looks and walk, articulate. Mukhang kaya ah, may pagasa.
Congratulations, Gwen, on your 1st runner up finish! ACHIEVEMENT TALAGA! Proud to be Pinoy!
Miss Universe – 3rd Runner-Up
Miss World – 1st Runner Up
Miss International – Top 15, Miss Internet
Miss Earth – TBD.
I don’t know who the Miss Earth rep is, but hopefully she doesn’t break that nice streak up there ^^.
I love your honesty and candidness, thanks… You were not the only one who felt that way about Gwen. I think that depending on hair and make up, some women can be made to look more masculine or feminine. Usually models are like that. Our Miss Earth Rep is Athena Imperial… Barbie Doll ang FACE!!!!
Just saw the broadcast
Missed the start though. Luckily, it was in English, no nosebleed there! The show was nice, I liked it. I enjoyed the Dancers of the World segment and the one where they were showing the scores to get the Top 15. Gwen came in number 3 out of what, 100+ candidates. Woohoo! And the Filipino crowd, wow. :> Todo suporta!
Kudos to the winner, Venezuela. She’s amazingly pretty. :O And her gown, grabe, that skirt part must be the most titanic and ruffly I’ve ever seen. I also liked Puerto Rico and Korea…
I don’t know why Gwen’s hair was up like that. It looked better when she wore it down. Ewan na. Her answer during the top 7, wow!
Galing. Especially when she said being Ms. World was a JOB, because it entailed responsibility, and mentioning the privilege of being able to communicate and help others. Great answer. She made us proud.
As for our Miss Earth Rep, Pinay beauty talaga! She’ll do well.
Is there going to be a replay telecast on GMA7?
Moki the replay was last Monday
but don’t you worry, search mo lang ang Miss World 2011 on youtube and you will find videos of the pageant!
Its was no biggie doing the updates for you. I enjoyed it actually. The pageant season is fast coming to a close. Hope to see you both at Binibini and MWP this year. There’s always Legaspi Market anytime.
oops. That should be next year.
congratulation!!!!
What a great finish for Gwendoline! Congratulations! Not to put Ivian Sarcos (Miss Venezuela) down, but upon searching Google for Ivian’s photos, there must be at least three different versions of her nose. The current version of her nose is lovely. So to put it bluntly, Ivian literally won by a nose…
Hahahaha! You know those Miss Venezuelas, surgery here, nose lift there. But in all fairness, Ivian Sarcos is really pretty. I prefer her over the super-retokado Venezuela rep at Miss Universe. Just hope she keeps her current version of her nose the way it is.
Proud of Gwendoline’s achievement as always!
LOLOLOL! Version 2.1 upgrade to verson 2.2?
Yes we are proud of Gwendoline, she fought good and hard for the Philippines!
LOLOLOLOL! Three versions! Haaaaayyyy naku… hoping she was pretty in all versions of nose…
but congratulations to Venezuela anyway!
Well, all I can say is it takes a lot courage to go under the knife of a cosmetic surgeon that many times — but it certainly paid off for Ivian (as it did for Stefania Fernandez, Dayana Mendoza, etc.)… sigh
CONGRATULATIONS YOU ARE THE BEST AMONG OF THEM, YOU ARE TRULY A WINNER.
The Philippines is on FIRE
Bravo Gwen!!! Actually, I dont see anything wrong with strong or “musculine” features
I actually think Gwen is a beautiful woman with all those interesting details…
I think I already mentioned in the past that androgyny has always seen as fabulous and beautiful in high fashion New York, Milan, Paris and London— there is nothing wrong with it– in fact its quirky differences that makes a person unique and beautiful….
Im just a bit disappointed coz we always fail to think outside the box
Gwen’s victory should open our eyes to different types of beauties — we have to think global….. a girl next door is not always the winning beauty just like height is not always might…..
I feel like im kind of masculine. Boyish in fact. So I know where you’re coming from…
Hi miss joyce!! Love your blog.
Thanks Paul, muah!!!!!
Is it me or is Miss Universe a lot more hyped that Miss World? Hopefully Gwen’s win gets more noticed. I wonder if some people are actually waiting for the Q&A gaffes. LOL
Hi CHino, Miss Universe is more popular in the Americas and the Philippines. Most European countries send their main winner to Miss World and the 1st runner up to Miss U. It really depends on where you come from. My blog will always be in support of Filipina beauties – even when they commit such gaffes
we all say stupid things and make grammatical errors in our lives so I like to be kind to the girls who mess up the Q&A. Im sure many of us would be deathly afraid of joining pageants because of the Q&A…. LOLOL!
Joyce, yeah, too bad for the Q&A gaffes, I agree they seem to have been overnoticed. But anyway the beauties can say, despite the gaffes, I still look better than you. hehe
You wish… LOLOL!
I also believe it reflects some problems in our educational system. They don’t teach English like they used to.
Yep but many pageant fans are clamoring for our beauty queens who are not comfortable speaking in English to be accompanied by a translator. I think that has merit. The inability to speak English well does not mean you are stupid.
And besides, there is such a thing as physical intelligence – some people just really know how to look good on stage and in public. You can put anything on them and they will look beautiful. Very few people know how to do that and so I think is it unintelligent for people to minimize that.
Thanks for the explanation! That’s one thing to learn about beauty contests.
I think Madam Cory and her stylist work really hard for the look that Gwen sported during the Miss World. Her hair was styled differently and they gave her a lighter make up. That gave her soft face and got rid of her manly features. Congratulations to Gwen for making us all proud and for Madam Cory for flying in Julia Morley (once) and Miss World winner (twice). Madam Cory was also special mentioned during the National Directors Forum. So, I guess Madam Cory’s effort really helped Gwen’s victory.
I’ve watch both 3011 Miss Universe (Sao Paulo) and 2011 Miss World (London) pageant over and over and concluded that Miss World really lagged behind Miss Universe in a lot of aspects. Miss Universe is hip, trendy, relevant, sexy, interesting and people want to watch it over and over. As for Miss World, I’m sorry to say but it’s boring.
I think 2012 Bb. Pilipinas and 2012 MWP will be very interesting. A lot of beautiful ladies will audition.
But i felt that the Miss U in Bahamas was not so spectacular ha. I enjoyed the one in Brazil this year tho. That was groovin’! Haven’t been able to sit down and watch the totality of the Miss World 2011 since I’m LOADED WITH WORK!!! But i did catch the Q&A with the final batch of girls and dang, did Gwen make me feel proud to be Pinoy!
Congratulations To Gwendoline …
because of gwen..Ive learned to appreciate Ms World, In big contrast to Ms Universe which is american managed the british mentained the integrity and pizazz of MW, Less sensationalized due to scandals and politicking… If I have my daughter join a pageant it would be Ms World
Thanks for the vote of confidence for Miss World! We really should be giving it more notice here in the Philippines! It’s actually bigger than Miss Universe since more than 120 countries participate while with Miss U only about 80 to 90 countries attend. And in most European pageants, they send the winner to Miss World and the runner-up to Miss U. But whatever the numbers are, both pageants are prestigious and are always filled with beautiful women from all over the world !!!
Hi po! Can you please post something about the Lin-ay pageant? Salamat
Hi there! So sorry, I can barely catch up with all the major pageants happening now as it is!!! When is it happening?
