***Congratulations to Isabella Manjon for winning the Miss Charity award (is this like Miss Friendhship? - I think it is… no it’s not, Ecuador got the Friendship award) in Miss Tourism Queen International 2011. There’s a big sigh of disappointment among Pinoy pageant fans who expected Isabella Manjon to place high or even win the pageant. But it seems like China was looking for a leaner type of beauty… Whatever the case, Isabella Manjon still kicked international butt… congratulations again!
Wow, what an afternoon of excitement at the send-off for Bb. Pilipinas Tourism 2011 Isabella Manjon at Gateway Suites in Cubao!
Finally, Madame Stella Marquez Araneta delivered on her promise to send Isabella Manjon to an international competition. SMA told me herself months ago, during the send-off of Shamcey Supsup to Miss Universe, that Isabella Manjon would be sent to an international pageant but Madame Stella did not specify which one. This promise materialized at last, only a couple of weeks ago when the agreement was sealed: Isabella Manjon will be the Philippine representative to the Miss Tourism Queen International 2011 in China!
STOLEN THUNDER?
I heard hushed whispers in the crowd that BPCI’s move stole thunder from Mutya ng Pilipinas which reportedly was supposed to send one of it’s winners to Miss Tourism Queen International 2011. And that the photo of the Mutya winner was already on the MTQI website for a few days – (this photo kwento is just hearsay, so can anyone reading this confirm it?)
If you recall, Mutya ng Pilipinas had it’s pageant last Dec 2, 2011 and just a couple days ago (as of press time) I discovered that Mutya was reshuffling it’s beauty queens once again. Could the reshuffling be due to BPCI’s victory in winning the right to send a rep to MTQI? Most likely, methinks!
But enough of that. I was just so happy to be at the send-off of Isabella, since I had missed out on Dianne Necio’s.
When I arrived, I saw the lovely faces of Patricia Fernandez, Nina Ricci Alagao and Jennifer Barrientos – past Bb. Pilipinas winners. (We were joking about the use of the word ‘former’ in the commonly used descriptive, ‘former winner’. It kind of suggests that you used to be a winner but now are not, LOL!) It’s always good to see FORMER winners at the send-off – former beauty queens are a well of support and make for the best cheerleaders on the planet!
ONLY 2 WEEKS OF PREPARATION!
The program began when the four other Bb. Pilipinas 2011 winners (Patricia Mae Tumulak Janine Tugonon, MJ Lastimosa, Dianne Necio and Shamcey Supsup) entered and then presented Isabella Manjon to the waiting crowd. We all cheered as she sashayed into the suite, swinging her hips like there was no tomorrow. After a few minutes of flash photography, Isabella Manjon took her special seat on stage and the four other winners proceeded to roast her – gently of course!

L-R: MJ Lastimosa, Janine Tugonon, Dianne Necio and Shamcey Supsup give their messages to a seated Isabella Manjon.
I loved the revelation that Dianne Necio made – that Isabella Manjon only had 2 weeks to prepare herself mentally and physically for Miss Tourism Queen International 2011. Dianne joked that when Isabella Manjon got the good news via a rare phone call from Madame Stella Araneta, she went on a crash diet, ate only air and drank only water and spent all her free time in the gym. I bet my bottom that that’s closer to the truth than most of us think. Believe me, when a competitive woman suddenly faces a challenge, she’ll move mountains (of fat?) to overcome it!
Not that Isabella is fat. Certainly not. Voluptuously hot is what she is. But being too voluptuous CAN ruin your chances of winning a pageant these days. So I can understand the panic to get her sexy curves down to a less nuclear level. It’s part of the hazard of the job.
MTQI – A DREAM COME TRUE!
What do I like about Isabella? Well… that she can really rip the stage into pieces with her sizzling walk. During the press presentation of Bb. Pilipinas 2011, she really stood out for that. I also have green eyes for her widow’s peak. Why didn’t God give me one? LOL! Also lurking under all that hotness is an intelligence that will surprise.
And I also love the thankfulness that this 5’9″ stunner exudes – she never hid the fact that going to an international pageant was her ultimate dream, a dream she was willing to forego. But now that she’s finally going to one, you could almost see the letters T.Y. tatooed on her forehead. Thankfulness is such an impressive attitude in a beauty queen – its proof that her feet are still on the ground.
MILES AWAY ON CHRISTMAS DAY
By the time Dianne, Shamcey, MJ and Janine were done giving their messages, Isabella was all teary-eyed. When I snuck a glance at the table where her parents were seated, I could see her Mom and Dad were a bit red-eyed as well. While her Mom was still smiling, her Dad had the saddest look on his face, mostly because this is going to be the first time that Isabella Manjon will be miles away on Christmas day; Miss Tourism Queen International 2011 begins next week in China and ends on December 27, 2011 when the winner is crowned. For a moment I let myself feel the love of a close family – so close that one Christmas apart could unleash a bucket of tears.
Finally, the press was allowed to ask Isabella Manjon a few questions and one of my favorite ones was a question on how she handled that ‘limbo period’ when she wasn’t sure if she was going to compete internationally or not. Isabella Manjon gave a wistful smile and said that she had already accepted the possibility it wouldn’t happen. That it was OK if she didn’t wear the Philippine sash abroad. Instead, she found consolation in all the training she has recieved under BPCI; these were lessons and skills that would be useful for the rest of her life. And she was satisfied with that.
Somewhere in the middle of the press questions, I sidled up to her Mom and said, “You must be so very proud!” And she said yes! Apparently, Isabella was very boyish growing up and was a little overweight. Her Mom said that it was quite a surprise for Isabella’s friends to see her join AND win a beauty pageant! They never really saw it coming, she said. I totally agree – I was the same way before I joined my Bb. Pilipinas pageant in 1985.
WINTER WARDROBE. OH, AND BRING LOTS OF LIP BALM!
But back to Isabella’s upcoming challenge in China – aside from facing more than a 100 competitors, she’s be dealing with WINTERTIME! How is this beach babe going to deal with the cold wave? Well, I discovered that’s she’s got a complete winter wardrobe all bought in New York! How they managed to do that in 2 weeks is beyond me.
Miss Tourism Queen International’s requirement is 7 gowns and 3 cocktail dresses per contestant. This is aside from the winter wear they need for daily use in rehearsals, promo tours and public appearances. But apparently, Isabella Manjon is bringing twice that number of outfits, thanks to the competitive drive of Madame Stella and the BPCI team who are doing all they can to support her in the pageant.
(One designer name I heard bandied about was Calvin Klein. Hmmmm…)
I was also assured that her main competition gown is a killer. No other information was given because BPCI likes to clam up when it comes to what their beauty queens wear in competition. UGH! May I just roll my eyes ONE MORE TIME??!!! Anyway, we’ll eventually see what Isabella’s main gown is going to be like… if it’s anything close to the sheer silver threads Shamcey Supusp wore in Miss Universe 2011, then we can all rejoice!
Alas, I had to leave in the middle of the presscon – had a newscast to deliver at RPN 9 and a blog to write for the dusky Isabella Manjon, the first ever Bb. Pilipinas Tourism title holder!

Uhmmm Miss Joyce, I’m an avid follower of your blog; I’m a certified missosologist and I love your articles! However, I have to point out that the Bb. Pilipinas 2011 first runner up is not Patricia Tumulak, but Janine Tugonon. Thanks!
AK! Thanks for the correction! Fixing it NOW!
Her face has lots of assets. =).. A beautiful woman who ever graced BB. Pilipinas. =0
I think the MP 1st runner-up will be competing in Ms. Tourism International to be held in Malaysia while Ms. Manjon will be competing in Miss Tourism Queen International in China. Those are 2 totally different pageants.
Yes, they are two totally different pageants. And the rumor I picked up is that Mutya was going to send someone to MTQI. But it it isn’t going to happen anymore daw because BPCI is the one sending a candidate. Since this info is what I heard from someone else, I can’t say that I know this is the truth for sure. But i can vouch for the person I heard it from.
The other pageant, Miss Tourism International, will feature Diana Rademann whom I interviewed a couple days ago. Will publish that, hopefully today or tomorrow if I can get any writing done…
i think it is still okei if a candidate is Voluptuous rather than anorexic.. what matters is how she will represent her country to the pageant.. beauty and brain indeed.
Maganda ang curves ni Isabella! But because she is carb sensitive like me, she had to cut back in her diet, just for competition purposes. Lets pray for her victory!!! Go Philippines!
VERY STUNNING AND BEAUTIFUL GOOD LUCK
Miss Tourism International lists among its candidates those from “special tourism regions” — as in Miss Bali, Miss Borneo and Miss Phuket. The net effect of this is some countries end up having two candidates competing in the same pageant, e.g., Indonesia plus Bali; Malaysia plus Borneo; and Thailand plus Phuket. Why is that? And under what circumstances is this allowed by the pageant for a country to have two candidates? It seems blatantly unfair, or did I miss something? Perhaps BPCI should consider sending Miss Philippines along with a Miss Palawan (since it is a special tourism region), or something!
P.S. I’m referring to the “Miss Tourism Queen International”. Here’s their list of candidates which include Ms. Manjon (good luck girl!).
http://www.misstqi.com/contestants_2011.php
Thanks for the link Glen!
That was the complaint of one person from BPCI. Kakaloka daw. Yes, lets send a Miss Palawan and maybe even a Miss Boracay. And a Miss Baguio. How about Miss MOA? That mall’s weekend population reaches 4 million – the same population as New Zealand!
Sigh… It’s things like this (having two candidates from one country) that lessen the validity of a pageant. Nevertheless, I know Pinoys will support Isabella Manjon as she competes in CHina!
YET ANOTHER COMMENT FROM ME… I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the Philippines won this pageant in 2006 when Justine Vinluan Gabionza
beat the other 85 candidates. The Philippines also entered as a semi-finalist in 2005. QUESTION: Who has in the past picked the Philippine delegates?
Also, there must be about half a dozen international pageants with the word “Tourism” in it, and frankly, I am confused and having a difficult time telling them apart…
Glenn… yeah there are lots of pageants with the word Tourism in it, hehehe
Im not sure who or what gave Justine the right to represent the Phils in this pageant. My guess is that she was ‘handpicked’ by a Filipino who held the franchise or the right to send a contestant. I know one or two of these people and they are constantly looking out for beauties to send to these lesser known pageants. Of course, when a local pageant is not held and a “winner” is instead handpicked, we get suspicious. But of course when the handpicked winner wins on the international level, we all rejoice anyway
Joyce — Thanks for the info! Whoever handpicked Justine in ’06 obviously did the right thing! So BPCI now holds the franchise to Miss Tourism Queen International since they now have the privilege of selecting the Philppine delegate. Well, I think that’s good. It means they can continue to give three international titles after having the Miss World franchise taken off its hands. Let’s hope that no new pageant ever adds the word “Tourism” to their title… ever!
I assume some countries still handpick their delegate — primarily for want of sponsors and resources to stage a national pageant especially if the brand is still relatively unknown.
Designating or Handpicking beauty queens to represent their country in an international pageant is actually more common than we think. this year’s Miss USA in Miss World 2011 was chosen by Elite Models, the franchise holder in the US, without the benefit of a local pageant. Unfortunately, USA did not do so well in Miss World this year…
Not quite sure if Justine was indeed handpicked. Have to ask around. But I don’t remember her from any of our big national pageants so I’m guessing that she was chosen by the person who held the rights that year
Hi Ms. Joyce! I love your blog a lot! Anyway, if i am not mistaken since 2005 til1 2010, Carousel Productions is the official franchise holdr of MTQI. They are responsible in sending Sheila Alonso (2005), Justine Gabionza (2006), Kristel Dizon (2009?) They were the few i remember. All were runners up at Ms. Philippjne Earth.
Sheila became a semi finalist during her year and she bagged a special award during her time while the following year Justine bagged the top plum.
THanks JIM! This answers questions raised earlier
so… does this also mean that BPCI grabbed the franchise from Carousel and not from Mutya? Gee… then what I heard at the table where I was sitting was wrong…
Justine Gabionza was April Ross Perez’ 1st RU in the 2002 Miss Philippines- Earth Pageant. She’s one unforgettable candidate for she answered the final question in Tagalog.
That could have cost her the crown even though she was more engaging and vivacious than the sweet & wholesome Zamboangena beauty who later on would place among the Top Ten in the 2002 Miss Earth Pageant
Good Luck!!
she has a chance to win the crown
sana manalo cya
im a follower of your blog Ate Joyce and Im a fan of Isabella, hope she’ll do well in MTQI,thanks for supporting our beauty queens, more power!
Thanks much
Isabella is on a rampage and will stun China!
[...] on two pageants that run through the Christmas season and culminate in the last week of December: The Miss Tourism Queen International 2011 in China (which Isabella Manjon is going to) and the Miss Tourism International 2011 in Malaysia – the beauty pageant that our subject, [...]
Madayaw na hapon Ma’am Joyce Ann Fellosas Burton (Ms. Young Int’l.1981 Semi-Finalist & 1985 Bb.Pilipinas-Universe Winner). Isabella Manjon has got what it takes to the next M.T.Q.I. and might be the 2nd Filipina (let’s keep our fingers cross) after Justine Vinluan Gabionza brought home in our homeland and became the 1st Filipina conquered M.T.Q.I. Justine was 2002 Ms.Philippines-Air(1st runner-up, wherein the Winner has Ms.Philippines-Earth Title w/ the eventual winner was Zamboanga’s April Ross Perez later that year ended up as one of the Top 8 Finalists in 2002 Ms.Earth 2002). Justine joined in 2004 Top Model of the World and ended up as 4th runner-up and to years after handpicked by a national organizer (I guess) and represented the Philippines edged out 85 countries & territories across the globe as the BIG Winner of Miss Tourism Queen International 2006.She was one of the Guests and being mentioned by PGMA on S.O.NA.2006 (on the lighter aspects,a year after Ms. Precious Lara San Agustin Quigaman was crowned 2005 Miss International and became the 4th Filipina Ms.International Winner next to 1964 Gemma Guerrero Cruz (Ms.Philippines), 1970 Bb.Pilipinas Aurora Pijuan and 1979 Mimilanie “Melanie” Marquez). On the other hand, I do hope the two runners-up: Janine Togonon and Mary Jane Lastimosa (She was Mutya ng Cotabato 1st runner up 2006, Mutya ng University of Mindanao 2007, Mutya ng Dabaw 2008 and won Reyna ng Aliwan 2008 (a National Contest for All Mutyas across the Archipelago)..It was in 2001 that Bb.Pilipinas 2nd runner up Maricar Manalastas Balagtas represented and won Miss Globe in Istanbul, Turkey.Later that year, Bb.Pilipinas 1st runner-up Michelle Reyes represented and won Anatola’s Ms.Tourism Int’l. in Ankara Turkey and in Dec.2002, Michelle Reyes represented and won Miss Tourism World made her the first Filipina won two different int’l.pageants in two consecutive years.Another Bb.Pilipinas 2nd runner-up Noella Mae Evangelista represented the country and brought home the bacon as Queen of Tourism Int’l., et.al.
Good afternoon once again Ma’am Joyce. In 2011 Philippines produces strong delegates: 2011 Ford Models Supermodel of the World-> Danica Flores Magpantay ; Miss Universe 3rd runner-up titlist Shamcey Supsup: Miss International People’s Choice Awardee & one of Top 15 Semi-Finalists, Dianne Necio : 2011 Miss World 2nd placer Gwendolyn Ruias, 2011 Miss Earth-Water (equivalent to 2nd runner-up) Athena Mae Imperial, who’s next?…I do hope Bb.Pilipinas runners-up 2011 have their chances in competing future international pageants just like in 2001 Bb.Pilipinas runners-up mentioned from above.:)
Good evening Ma’am Joyce. The two remaining int’l. pageants (M.T.Q.I. in China & Ms.Tourism Int’l.in Malaysia) might affect the grand slam pageant rankings for 2011. The country of the year for 2011 (based on BIG FIVE Major Pageants:Ms.UNIVERSE, Ms.World,Ms.International, Ms.Earth and Ms.Tourism Queen International and other minor int’l.pageants including Ms.Tourism Int’l.) will be chosen between Venezuela and our native land, The Philippines were both countries have their respective placements on the said world pageants)…To Miss Isabella Manjon, wishing you good luck and make the PHILIPPINES entered the World Stage as top finisher/grand winner)
Ronron, this is SO exciting! I laaahhhv it!
I love it too Ma’am Joyce.Thank you so much for your reply (Buti pa kayo nagreply si Big Bro., wala lang, hehehe).Let me share to you when did I first watched I int’l.pageant, it was Ms.Int’l.1980 telecast over IBC13( I guess) when I was 7 years old, that was when Mimilanie “Melanie” Laurel Marquez relinquished her Int’l. crown to Costan Rican Lorna Marlene Chaves held in Tokyo, Japan..then I watched 1st the Bb.Pilipinas’87 and the eventual winner was a stunner Geraldine Edith “Pebble” Villarruz Asis…Never in my mind that the night of May 27, 1987 when I switched on the television @ 8pm over Channel 7 & it was the World’s most prestigious pageant that made me thrilled and started to watched the live telecast of Ms.Universe’87 and overjoyed when Ms.Philippines, Pebbles Asis, entered the Top 10 Semi-final round and later on that big event, she garnered the 6th spot of all 68 candidates of all four corners of the world where only the Top Five competed on the Final Round and later watch not just Binibini that include Mutya and Ms.Earth-Phils.(started in 2001 where Carousel Productions organized this int’l.pageant with environmental awareness), other national pageants include Bodyshots, Look of the Year (later named Elite Model Look and it was in 1992 that Sharmaine “Ruffa” Rama Gutierrez made it to Top 5 in Int’l Look of the Year, the eventual winner was a fourteen year old from Chicago, Illinois. Previously watched Look of the Year’89 & the Phil.rep.was Lou Bunyi and the winner was from Spain, Ines Sastre held in Paris, France) (If I will detail it by local, national & int’l. tilts, it will become a Book of Beauties, (just kidding!)
Pageant fan ka talaga! Pebbles and I got very close for a short while. I have lost touch with her though
but hoping I find her one day through Facebook or something…
Did you know Ma’am Joyce many will not distinguish who’s 1985 & 2005 Bb.Pilipinas-Universe Winners based on your recent photo with Ma’am Gionna Cabrera.Ganda talaga ng mga Pilipina. If Puerto Princesa Underground River, is one of New 7 Wonders of Nature, then there are also Seven New Wonders of Beauty and one of of them, definitely: Filipina
Ronron, you are sweet to say that! But yes, the Filipina is one of the Seven New Wonders of Beauty, what a wonderful description!
just learned of the results of MTQI 2011….
Isabella didn’t make the first cut. we hope our very own justine gabionza who won the crown back in 2006 and who was a member of the preliminary judging panel (not sure if she was in the pageant night panel) shed light on isabella’s exclusion from the semi- finals…
judging from her photos splashed across the internet, she was one of the standouts…
what went wrong?
Hi brew… what I heard is that the look they want is the lean, sexy look. But at least Isabella got the Miss Charity award. That is like Miss Friendship right? Still, we received an honor and that is tres cool!
Thank you so much for the compliment Ma’am Joyce.Aside po sa inyo, na pa Wow! ang reply po ni Ma’am Bianca Gonzalez when she said last time that P.P.U.R. is one of 7 new wonders of nature and I immediately told her that there are also 7 New Wonders of Beauty:and on top of them definitely Filipina..I lost on being P.B.B.Season 4 Housemate for the second time around since Apr.26,2009 via Lagao,Gensan Gym Audition & Mar.19,2011 Tagum Gaisano Grand Audition but I continue believing & dreaming BIGger because I already joined Several Nat’l.T.v. game shows but I only landed on Top 100 Semi-Finalists prior to Top 10 Official Studio players on several taping episodes(those were the actual persons being called randomly to continue on the final rounds, I guess) since Nov.2000. I will continue my journey on joining future t.v. reality or any t.v.game shows after the current season of tv reality show) because my mottos in life are: A WINNER never quits ‘coz when I quit I lose & Behind the hills of sacrifices lies the valley of success…….
Yes keep on going for your dreams!!! Always a winner diba? One day you will be a part of a reality tv show, don’t give up!
Thanks a lot Ma’am Joyce for the encouragement…Patience, persevance & humility are always in me…To Ma’am Joyce and to my fellow subscribers, kindly watch my featured videos via http://www.youtube.com and type-> Ronvilleful (That’s me), that feature 2 videos namely: 1.) Winona Rona Rider & 2.) My favorite goose…..Back to pageantry, I remembered in Sept.30,1994 a local pageant named Binibining Toril (located 15 kms.south of Davao City(D.C.) that it part of D.C.Third District)showcased Top 16 Semi-Finalists.During the presentation of candidates, each one of them introduced themselves. Then, it’s turn to this Candidate, a sixteen year old Lass (that was in ’94) a Phil.Science Student, introduced herself for almost an hour (WHooo! and the crowd almost got crazy over her, very intelligent pero over na masyado, if only this event hasbeen captured by a video that time, this might be the longest introductory speeh by a local candidate)….I love watching Bb.Pilipinas especially in 1992 that our high schoolmate joined the Bb.Pilipinas named Ma.Carmen Cabiles, from Sta.Cruz,Davao del Sur but she failed to continue on the semi-final round. The eventual winners were Bb.Pilipinas-Universe Elizabeth “Liza” Berroya,Daughter of former Col.Berroya, Bb.Pilipinas-In’tl. Joanne Alivio, Bb.Pilipinas-World (This was the first Franchise by BBPI since ’89 Mutya ng Pilipinas sent their last Ms.World-Phils.bet named Estrella “Star” Querubin held in Hongkong where Polish Beauty Aneta Beata Kreglicka crowned Ms.World’89) Marina Pura Benipayo Bb.Maja Pilipinas’92, later that year replaced Marilen and became the Phils.rep.to ’92 Miss World though both (Marilen & Marina) retained their respective titles.Ms.Russia Julia Kourotchkina’s enthronement as Ms. World’92 Winner…It was in 1993 Bb.Pilipinas, that a Davao City-born Shiela Marie Santarin (later years became Mrs.Maliksi and already in heaven together w/Melody Gersbach Bb.Pilipinas_Int’l.2009 & Ms.Int’l.top 15 Semi-Finalist) her batch were ’92 Look of the Year & became Top 5 Look-Intl.Search and Bb.Pilipinas-World (later that year became Ms.World 2nd princess/3rd placer) Sharmaine “Ruffa” Rama Gutierrez and Bb.Pilipinas-Universe Commercial Model,Melinda Joanna “Dindi” Gallardo and Bb.Pilipinas-Tourism Jeanette Fernando (they might be the shortest reigning Bb.Pilipinas because it was in Oct.1993 that Bb.Pilipinas’94 was held that Ms.Charlene Bonnin Gonzalez won Bb.Pilipinas-Universe (almost seven mos.in preparation of Ms.Universe’94 held in P.I.C.C.,Manila, Phils.), Bb.Pilipinas-World Caroline Subijano (was a former ’91 Supermodel Phils.) & Ms. Alma Concepcion Bb.Pilipinas-Intl. also Sheila Marie Dizon Bb.Pilipinas-Tourism. Abbygale Williamson Arenas became 1st runner-up(3 years after joined ’97 Bb.Pilipinas and won and became Top 11 in Ms.Universe’97 and garnered Ms.Photogenic Award, made it two years in a row since Aileen “Leng” Damiles in 1996).2nd runner’up Bb.Pilipinas’94 was Eda Calonia, a Mutya ng Paraiso’93 & Bb.Dabaw’93 (prior to Bb.Pilipinas’94 tilt all in one year, 1993), 1996 another Davaoeña Beauty Andrea Lia Aquino Ramos brought home the national crown & title to Davao City and later that year competed in Miss Universe’96 and became Ms.Photogenic, before Lia Ramos, in 2005 Gionna Jimenez Cabrera (also Top 5 Best in Nat’l.Costume & Thai Silk Awardee that was 3 merits to her) and in 2007 Summa-Cumlaude Ana Teresa Licaros, won again Ms.Photogenic, making it triple winning feat for Philippines eventually with a total of 7 Ms.Photogenic Winners in Miss Universe History since Vida Doria, 1973 Ma.Margarita Roxas Moran (Ms.Universe’73) on so on and so forth….
Wow, you are indeed a beauty pageant fan! you remember EVERYTHING! Will be checking out your youtube… thanks much!
A pleasant Monday & Happy New Year 2012!Thank you so much Ma’am Joyce! To continue…I recall other Pinay Beauties namely: Maria Sovietskaya Bacud, Eat Bulaga’s She’s Got the Look’93 Winner,in June she was crowned Ms.Metro Manila, in October.93 landed as one of the Semi-Finalists of Bb.Pilipinas’94. In 1995 she won Miss Tourism Int’l.2nd runner-up & Bb.Pilipinas 1st runner-up’96…I also remembered another Davaoeña Beauty, Miss Erlinda Mejia, 1989 Ms.Asia-RP 3rd runner-up, crowned Mutya ng Dabaw’90, Miss Davao Tourism Top Ten Semi-Finalist, 1996 Mutya ng Pilipinas- Intercontinental (equivalent to 1st runner-up) and represented the Philippines in 1997 Miss Intercontinental (the winner was Miss India Lara Dutta, later became the 2nd Miss India(since ’94 Sushimita Sen) to win 2000 Miss Universe in Nicosia, Cyrus.RP Bet was a Miss Universe-in-the-making none other than Nina Ricci Alagao, one of the crowd’s favorites, one of the co-hosts of M.U.was surprised that she was’nt on the official list of Final Top Ten Semi-finalists).I was dismayed year after year when Philippines didn’t make it to the Finals (though our bets are deserving to be included in Semi-Final Round after Miriam Quiambao’s reign namely: Zorayda Ruth Andam (2001), Karen Loren Medrano Agustin (2002, in 2004 Karen became 2nd runner up in International Coffee Queen Winner Colombian Beauty Jeymmy Vargas later that year won Miss International, the predecessor of Precious Lara San Agustin Quigaman winning 2005 Miss Int’l., the 4th Filipina winner-to-date, Precious was 2001 Eat Bulaga’s TeeVee Babe 1st runner-up, few weeks later joined Bb.Pilipinas as Candidate#1.In 2005 became History when Lara won Ms.Int’l.after 26 long years, Mimilanie “Melanie” Laurel Marquez enthroned as Ms.Int’l.’79 at at the age of 16………2003 Carla Gay Balingit 2004 Maricar Manalastas Balagtas (her third attempt in Bb.Pilipinas and won to represent to Phils.in Quito, Ecuador, she was ’99 Bb.Pilipinas Candidate, In 2001 Bb.Pilipinas 2nd runner-up and R.P.
