Beauty Queen Evangeline Pascual is celebrating the 17th anniversary of her radio show Echoes of the Heart on DWIZ 882 by building a HOME FOR TEACHERS. Evangeline Pascual says, “this is our pay-it-back activity for the success we have enjoyed as the longest-running on-air counseling radio program.”
The project, called “Build a Home and More” aims to help struggling teachers. A survey by the DepEd shows that out of the 600 public school teachers in Quezon City only about 250 have their own homes. Evangeline Pascual, who was the first Filipina to place the highest in Miss World (1st Runner -up in 1973), hopes that this project will give these modern day heroes a place they can call home.
The BEST THING IS – You can be a part of the event by being a volunteer worker! Or by donating food, cleaning kits, construction tools and other building needs.
If you are planning to volunteer you might win a cash prize! I hear that three volunteers will be chosen as Best Construction Workers, so here is your chance to do something great for others while maybe even winning a prize!
Here are the details:
When: Tuesday, February 28, 2012
Time: 7am to 5pm
Volunteer Requirements: must be at least 18 years old and fit enough to do basic construction work.
Volunteer Dress Code: Sturdy working pants, shoes that cover the toes, bring extra clothes to wear after.

Wouldn’t it be great if more beauty queens followed Evangeline’s example. Hats off to her! And of course, also to you Joyce, for helping her cause — and for all the other volunteer work that you do for those less fortunate!
I think we all have our journeys in life. When I was younger, I didn’t really care much about the less fortunate. But now that I’m older and wiser… or maybe wiser lang (aahaha), my perspectives have changed – in a good way, I’d like to believe. So charity and volunteerism are part of my life now. I also take time out to spend with friends who need company. I’m not much of good advice-giver but I am good company and don’t mind spending time with heartbroken friends. These things I wouldn’t never have bothered with during my beauty queen years. At the end of the day, I think I like myself better now than when I had that crown on my head…
