Bb. Pilipinas Selects its Golden Batch of Candidates for 2013 Tomorrow, Feb. 21, 2013!
Finally, after an extended screening process, Bb. Pilipinas is ready to announce who will make it into the list of official candidates for this year’s pageant.
Out of more than 100 aspirants, 70 girls remain, all of whom will do battle in the final screening, which happens tomorrow, Feb 21, 2013 at the Gateway Suites in Quezon City. That number will be pared down to 50 official candidates – a significant number for the Bb. Pilipinas organization as it celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year!
One of the biggest questions is – how many Bb. Pilipinas crowns are at stake this 2013?
The press release I received from Bb. Pilipinas says:
“…candidates will have the rare chance of winning one of the three most sought-after crowns in Philippine pageant history: Miss Universe-Philippines, Binibining Pilipinas-International, and Binibining Pilipinas-Tourism.”
Three things that crossed my mind when I read the above:
First: Dashed are the hopes of pageant fans who were expecting to see a Supranational title given away this year after Elaine Kay Moll won 3rd Runner up in the international pageant held last year.
However, coronation night is still in April, who knows what changes may happen between now and then?!
Personally, ABQ would LOVE to see a fourth crown given away! The only downside to that is once you’ve won a Bb. Pilipinas title, you can’t join the pageant again. So the Supranational title-holder will have to be happy with that title and forget any dream of joining again to go after the most coveted Universe title.
Second: They are giving away a Tourism title but last year’s winner, Katrina Dimaranan, has yet to compete in the Miss Tourism Queen International because the pageant was either delayed or cancelled due to problems with production. Does this mean Katrina won’t compete abroad anymore? That the MTQI is still considered a viable international pageant for Bb. Pilipinas to send a candidate to? And if Katrina doesn’t represent the Philippines abroad, does this mean she can compete again in Bb. Pilipinas? All I can say is what a waste if we don’t send this girl abroad to compete!
Third: Note the change of title for the Universe winner. She’s no longer going to be called Bb. Pilipinas Universe but Miss Universe Philippines.
The panel of screening judges include ABS-CBN Special Projects Head Chit Guerrero, ABS-CBN head writer Chris Violago, Miss Universe 2010 4th Runner Up Venus Raj, Miss Universe 2011 3rd Runner Up Shamcey Supsup, and Miss Universe 2012 1st Runner Up Janine Tugonon.
Coronation night of the 2013 Binibining Pilipinas beauty pageant will be telecast live on April 14 via ABS-CBN and is brought to you by the Araneta Center. ABQ hopes to see you at the Bb. Pilipinas 50th Anniversary Edition!!!

I am not certain, though, regarding that Teen World info as Wikipedia has conflicting reports. You can check it out.
Addendum to your RP victories in the international pageant scene in 2012:
Another triumph that we Filipinos did not celebrate (perhaps owing to lack of publicity?): Fhea Piamonte, age 19, from Laguna won the title of Teen World 2012.
My suggestion to BPCI is to have only one Bb Pilipinas. The rest will be runners up and will only be appointed to represent in minor pageants.
I am waiting for Bb Pilipinas Final Screening Revieq from you… OIts been 3 days na!!! Photos and Your INSIDE REVIEW please!!!
naku! i was at the Clark Hot Air Balloon event and was not able to go to the final screening, huhuhu
but i am deliberately waiting for the press presentation before i make my choices. i have not looked at any of the screening photos so that i can be as objective as possible. i get emotionally attached fast to people so im trying to stay away from the girls until the press presentation onwards. the less exposure i have to the girls, the more objective i can be
“First: Dashed are the hopes of pageant fans who were expecting to see a Supranational title given away this year after Elaine Kay Moll won 3rd Runner up in the international pageant held last year.
(Elaine Kay Moll was Bb. Pilipinas’ first runner-up in 2012 and was unexpectedly given the chance to represent the Philippines in Miss Supranational 2012.)”
Well, i’m glad they did not create a bb. Piipinas – Supranational. just because Elaine placed 3rd runner up doesn’tmean we have to crown now our rep for this pageant 9Supra for me will always be a minor pagentcompared to MU, MW, Me and MI).
for me just elect a rep to miss supra or just send Katrina instead (but I havea funny feeling Miss TQI is postponed for this year again as their website is still not updated)
Good luck to this year’s batch of delegates. Hopefully we will bag our 3rd Miss universe crown
send katrina instead – agree! maybe thats why there is no supra title? maybe they will send her
therre are many who believe supra could become a major pageant and i hope it does. whether a bb supra title is created or not, i hope we keep sending our girls to pageants like that!
Agree guys- send Katrina to Supra this year
I think she will do really well there…. Hopefully she is still up to the challenge…. She might have felt a little down when TQI was postponed
Actually- it was Venus Raj who fist carried the title Ms Universe- Philippines– back then, the winners of Bb Pilipinas (U, W and I) are all considered equal in bearing…. after placing 5th, Venus was called Ms Universe Philippines (it was in the official website of Bb)
During the time of Shamcey–her sash also read Bb Pilinas Universe— which was eventually changed when she won 4th in the Ms U.
It was only during the time of Janine that they dropped Bb Pilipinas and just called the winner Ms Unverse Philippines— they explained that this is part of the Franchise Agreement with the Ms Universe
Of course— at the time of Shamcey and Janine– there was no question that the top title is Ms Universe Philippines…. during the time of Venus and the batches previous to her—- they were very careful in saying that the titles are equal— and girls, during those time, would really have an opinion on which is a bigger pageant… it was also during those times that you can hear girls joining Bb Pilipinas and wanting the Ms World title instead of Ms U- I remember, Precious Lara mentioned in her interview that she wants to be in MW when she joined BP.
CONGRATSSSS to all the GIRLS who made it– I saw a lot of stunners worthy of representing us in the Ms Universe
may the best girl win!!!!
yes, i got the press release from bpci for venus and then for shamcey regarding the title change but i kind of ignored it since i still prefer the Bb. Pilipinas tag.
Good day, Ms. Joyce. Can you enlighten with the title name change to Miss Universe-Philippines?
i think its the policy now of Donald Trump to make all national miss u winners carry the title ‘miss universe’ plus country name.
ty for asking!
Good morning Ma’am Joyce. The last time a Bb.Pilipinas-Universe title was awarded to Shamcey Supsup that took place on April 10, 2011 during Bb.Pilipinas coronation night and upon her reigned, Shamcey is the first to wear Miss Universe-Philippines sash, I guess. About Katrina Dimaranan, due to delayed MTQI, BPCI, in my own opinion, should send her to compete in other minor international pageant (if any) prior to the 50th Edition of Binibining Pilipinas by April 14, 2013 if that will not conflict if ever MTQI will push through prior to Apr.2013. If in 2013 Bb.Pilipinas, they still have Bb.Pilipinas-Tourism 2013 Title, then Katrina Dimaranan should be send first in this year’s MTQI and the latter (the future Bb.Pilipinas-Tourism’13) on the following year. But if not,Cathy will continue as the reigning Bb.Pilipinas-Tourism like the other national pageant, Mutya ng Pilipinas, that Mutya Crisostomo Laxa,Mutya ng Pilipinas-Asia Pacific’90 waited for more than two years before Miss Asia Pacific took place on the last quarter of 1992. Thus the following years, 1991 and 1992 no Mutya ng Pilipinas-Asia Pacific title given to Mutya ng Pilipinas Batches ’91 & ’92 since Mutya Crisostomo Laxa continued her reign for a longer time…:)
