Beauty Pageants have long been associated with the impossible but worthy dream of World Peace. But did you know that there are pageants out there that focus on far more realistic goals? Here is a list of pageants that focus on an advocacy or social issue that NEEDS the world’s attention…
This page has the following sub pages.

Interesting choice of issues. Instead of focusing on Global Warming, Third World Debt, Finding A Cure For Cancer which are truly philanthropic, the causes of the pageants you mention are largely self serving. Of course a woman can be beautiful with a plus-size body, in a wheelchair, or if she works as a domestic helper. But the celebration of female beauty in all its forms is very different from the aspirational and totally selfless goal of world peace.
I was totally inspired by these women even if what they achieved might be perceived as self-serving….
I agree with you. My Mom made me watch Miss Universe pageant videos since I was eight, because I was growing too tall and thin for my age in those years. I don’t like Miss Universe pasca Donald Trump, it looks too glamorous and no longer as sophisticated and elegant as before. However, over the years these girls somehow have inspired me to get better, both inside and outside. And I think too many people see beauty as somekind of negative quality. That’s why I love the movie Legally Blonde. Beautiful girls can be smart and kindhearted, too! And there is nothing wrong in being beautiful or wanting to look beautiful, as long as it’s still in the right proportion, just like enything else in the world.

Hi leeAnne, I visited your blog – very nice work you are doing! Your home city Jakarta is such a beautiful city, the last time I was there was in August or September last year to attend a convention. I had so much fun and enjoyed shopping at one of your big shopping centers, I totally forget the name but it’s huge and full of wonderful fashion items at great discounts!
Hi Ms. Joyce,
Thank you for your kind reply and for visiting my blog. I hope you’ll get to visit Jakarta again!
I myself had the privilege to visit your country some time ago. The company I worked for sent me for a month-long program at Asian Institute of Management at Makati. I had a great time shopping around Greenbelt, loved the food (LOVE garlic rice!), and I was very impressed that Pinays are so friendly, even in the metropolitan Makati. My Filipino classmates arranged weekend events for overseas students, gave us gifts, took us to dinner, and an intern hotel staff befriended me and even sent free food to my room when I wasn’t feeling well.
I have been to several countries and mostly had very good impression with the locals, but the Filipinos and the Texans are the top two on my list of genuine friendliness and warm hospitality. They really go out all the way to make a foreigner feel welcomed.
I would really love to go back there again one day. I also want to visit Cebu, I heard the beaches are one ot the most beautiful in the world.
Btw, I’m following your blog via bloglovin now. ^__^
