   Dear Joyce,

   It’s been my earnest desire to find a blogsite like yours which accounts for our national beauty queens’ whereabouts and whatabouts, yesteryears and presently. What a luck I found yours. Now, why my fervent interest of this subject?

   I am a Pangasinense (not the derogatory term which others refer to us – “Pangalatok” This is a taboo term for us!) and two of your co-alumna in the Bb. Pilipinas are both from my town, Binmaley, Pangasinan (a town in between Dagupan City and the capital town Lingayen). I would like you to write more accounts of these two great women in your blog so that others could well remember them. Ate Vida Valentina Fernandez-Doria Legazpi was Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 1971 and Miss Universe – Photogenic that year is cousins to my classmates and friends. Also, Josephine Relucio-Singh Bautista was Bb. Pilipina-Maja 1981 and was 2nd runner-up in the International Maja competition. Jo was a very close friend of mine in high school, she was a year ahead of me. She always ran to me for comfort and consolation when naughty boys bullied her calling her “Jabar” (referring to Karim Abdul Jabar) as she was the tallest among all the girls in our school. Before she joined the pageant we met in our town during one of my break while studying at UP-Diliman. She asked my moral support and prayers to which I told her I’ve always been doing that for her all through those years. And she did win. What I didn’t know after she won was that she married, became a stewardess, and very sadly, succumbed to brain cancer. I wish you could write more of these two women whom I am very proud of all through these years. Another beaty queen from our town is Gina Vinluan who was Muya ng Pilipinas-Asia in 1987 and the recent one is the niece of my aunt-in-law and daughter of my very good friend Socorro Vinluan-Gabionza, Justine V. Gabionza. Justine was just a 2-year old cutie when my cousin and her aunt married in late 80′s. My town and we Binmaleyans are really very lucky and proud to have these beauties in our race… More power and congratulations for this very impressive beauty blogsite…. Godspeed…. Lei

     Lei, thanks much for the suggestions, I will see what I can do to feature those beauty queens.

     You know, I spent a lot of time with Jo Bautista; we traveled all over the PHilippines doing fashion shows for Mama Renee in the day… I never knew she had succumbed to cancer until a few years ago when i attended one of Renee’s bday parties and met Jo’s daughter there. That’s when they told me about Jo and I cried. Si Jo, grabe yan, walang ere, walang drama, very friendly and always accepted me even if I felt like the odd woman out whenever I was with my co beauty queens and co models.

     Salamat talaga for reminding me about Jo, although she had a tragic ending, she lived her life to the fullest
