Miss Ecuador, Lady Mina (no relation to Lady Gaga, hehehe) is referred to by her countrymen as the “Black Barbie”. She is the third ever Afro-Ecuadorian woman to win the right to represent her country in the Miss Universe 2010.
But this 5’7″ dark beauty never really planned on joining a beauty pageant. Lady Mina’s friend William Herrera, a modeling agency director, was VERY SNEAKY! He submitter her photo and an application form without her knowledge. When she discovered the dastardly plot, including the part about her being accepted as one of the contestants, Lady Mina decided to go for it – she considers herself to be a risk-taker after all!
And it was the right decision. Although she never expected to win, the judges chose her.
What helped her win? Especially since there were two crowd favorites (Ana Galarza and Andrea Suarez de Loja)? Lady Mina believes that her life growing up poor and making a living off the streets made her more willing to put everything at stake and fight for what she wanted – the Miss Ecuador Universe 2010 title.
Congratulations Lady Mina, keep on fighting!
