HAITI, Sarodj Bertin – Freedom Fighter’s Daughter

Miss Haiti Universe 2010 Sarodj Bertin has something in common with our very own Kris Aquino – a parent who was assasinated. Sarodj Bertin is the daughter of Mireille Bertin, a lawyer who was brutally murdered in broad daylight on March 28, 1995 reportedly for defending human rights and fighting against the re-instatement of Jean Bertrand Aristide, the first democratically elected president of Haiti.
When Mireille died, she left behind 4 children, one of which was Sarodj Bertin who was only 8 years old at the time. After her mother’s assasination, Sarodj and her family fled to the Dominican Republic where they live to this day.
While that makes Sarodj Bertin’s life dramatic and colorful, so does the intrigue that happened when she won the Miss Haiti Universe 2010 contest. The main issue raised by some of the losing contestants was Sarodj Bertin’s father Jean Bertin was one of the judges. If this is true, then it is a matter of concern.
But looking solely at Sarodj Bertin and her accomplishments, I have to say she is worthy of the title.
On the beauty side, she towers at 5’11″ and is gorgeous. Sarodj also has lots of pageant experience representing Haiti in the Miss Intercontinental 2005 and the Dominican Republic in the Miss Hawaiian Tropic International 2007.
On the brains side she is a lawyer (just like Mom) for an Italian firm in the Dominican Republic and also holds the position of treasurer for the group International Alliance for Recovery of Haiti (AIR-H). She speaks English, Spanish, French and Creole and is currently studying Italian and Mandarin.
Aside from competing against our very own Maria Venus Raj in the Miss Universe 2010, Miss Haiti Sarodj Bertin will be facing another Filipina – Czarina Gatbonton – in the Miss World 2010 beauty pageant.
Interesting trivia: Haiti has not sent a candidate to Miss Universe since 1989 – that’s 21 years!!! I wonder if that’ll give Sarodj Bertin an edge over the other contestants…

Her height is 5’9” according to the Miss Universe records. Since this is incorrect in your article, the accuracy of other accounts in your article is in question.
Even the top newspapers in the world make mistakes. That’s why they have errata boxes in subsequent publications. Making mistakes doesn’t necessarily make these newspapers totally inaccurate. Your logic is quite flawed and you seem to be very critical of my blog, I wonder why. I have made mistakes in the past and readers have corrected me and I have accepted such corrections. Corrections which I am VERY thankful for.
The 5’9″ height of Miss Sarodj Bertin that I mention in this article is from Wikipedia. I checked her Wiki article and according to them her height is 5’9″. I suggest you update the Wikipedia article to correct that mistake. Thanks very much!
