There seemed to have been a question about whether Kim Joo Ri would indeed be the Korean representative in the Miss Universe 2010. For some time, we thought she was replaced with Cha Ye Lin but that’s not too clear as of yet. I guess we will find out as the Miss Universe pageant approaches, but in the meantime let’s assume that Kim Joo Ri is Korea’s U Girl.
Miss Korea Kim Joo Ri enters Miss Universe with a solid track record: she competed in the Miss World 2009 and did well for her nation – she entered the Top 16, won the Miss Asia and Oceania minor title, first runner-up in the Talent competition, made it to the Top 20 in the Beach Beauty category and the Top 12 of the Best World Dress Designer.
Kim Joo Ri will also become the first ever Miss Korea to attend TWO major international beauty pageants if she sets foot on Las Vegas in August.
But I can’t believe she only placed first-runner up in the talent competition of Miss World 2009! Kim Joo Ri is a Bolshoi Ballerina (a tall one at 5’7½”) who studied ballet in Russia and England. I wonder what the talent winner (there were two due to a tie) did to beat that? Maybe swallow swords while walking on fire?
Anyway, Kim Joo Ri’s strict ballerina discipline came to the forefront when she didn’t shed a single tear after winning. While she did look surprised, she responded to her victory by simply waving and happily smiling at the cheering audience.
Kim Joo Ri’s hobbies and sports include horseback riding (which is REALLY bad for ballerinas you know), swimming, golf and jazz dance. She is also trilingual and speaks English, Russian and her native Korean.
In the rumor mill, Kim Joo Ri was thought to be dating rapper G-Dragon of the Korean hip-hop group Big Bang. On Big Bang’s first album, this dedication was listed: “Thanks to Kim Joo Ri”. Then when the album was released, Kim Joo Ri congratulated G-Dragon on his website. But it turns out the two are just really good friends who met in high school. Or so we think! LOLOL!
Find out why Kim Joo Ri was wearing a tiara before she was announced Miss Korea in this interview she had with Han Sang Hee of the Korea Times.
