Miss Norway Universe 2010 Melinda Elvenes
Imagine my surprise at seeing the photos of Melinda Elvenes, this year’s Froken Norge or Miss Norway! I was expecting a classic blonde Nordic beauty but instead, she turned out to be a delicate African rose. What a delight 
I wonder what the rest of Norway thinks about being represented by a Nordic African in the biggest beauty pageant in the Universe… well, it doesn’t matter what they think, Melinda Elvenes has already become the first ever Miss Norway with an African background.
Melinda Elvenes was originally born in Maun, Botswana and attended the Matshwane Primary School as a young girl. She is the second schoolgirl from that campus to win an international honor. The other girl was chosen as the Nokia Face of Africa in 2005.
Her Dad Lars Elvenes, a businessman and her Mom Sally decided to move to Norway because they felt that thier daughter needed to learn about the life, language and culture of her father’s homeland.
Melinda Elvenes’ passion before she got into modeling was dancing. She says it was something she has been doing since she was little and has no other talent! When inbetween modeling assignments in Oslo, Melinda Elvenes works as a waitress at the Hard Rock Cafe and volunteers at a center that helps women and children living under difficult circumstances.
The waitress job is just an inbetween thing for Melinda Elvenes; she has a Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies and after five years plans to work on a Master’s Degree in social work.
Miss Norway Universe 2010 Melinda Elvenes is on my shortlist of favorites in Miss Universe 2010!
