Miss Slovenia, Maria Savsek
One the most embarrassing things that could happen in a beauty contest happened in this year’s battle for the Miss Slovenia Universe scepter. They announced the WRONG WINNER!
Poor Sandra Marinovic got to enjoy the title for just a few days then suddenly it was gone! Organizers said the top three girls were announced in the wrong order – it was supposed to be the 2nd Runner-up Marika Savsek who should’ve been crowned.While it was terrible for the ‘wrong winner’, the whole scandal also embarrassed Marika Savsek the ‘new winner’.
Although Marika is joyful over getting the title, she knows that it was at the expense of Sandra and feels bad for her. In an attempt to ‘make things better,’ Marika has told Sandra that she can keep all the prizes.
Now some nasty tongue waggers started saying that Sandra lost the title because of a photo shoot she did for Playboy. But Sandra clearly mentioned the Playboy gig in her Miss Slovenia application form and pageant organizers still allowed her to compete. To defend herself further, she said she was wearing underwear in the shoot. (But in one shot that I saw, her bra was see-through.)
But let’s focus on Marika Savsek :
Marika is 5’9″ and the tenth holder of the Miss Universe Slovenia (or eleventh if you count Sandra’s short reign). Marika Savsek is a student at the University for Security Sciences in Ljubljana. She plays the tambura (a long-necked lute that looks like a guitar with a giraffe’s neck). Actually she’s a professional ‘tamburist’ and has been playing the instrument for 17 years! She’s spent time in Nepal as a tambura performer and has played with two musical folk groups in her hometown.
