ABQ had the opportunity to be a Bottom Liner at Boy Abunda’s talk show The Bottom Line. And the topic OF COURSE was beauty pageants and Janine Tugonon’s 1st Runner-up victory at the Miss Universe 2012 beauty pageant. We taped the show yesterday (Weds.) and it will be shown Saturday night, January 19, 2013 at 11:30pm on ABS-CBN!

Honestly, I was a little scared of guesting specially after the controversy surrounding Miriam Quiambao last year when she guested on the show. I avoid controversy and much prefer the beauty queen ideal of world peace. Anyway, the show turned out to be quite peaceful altho I got scared of Boy Abunda who can be very forceful when giving his opinions. Like when I said that Beauty Queens, win or lose, are loved by Filipinos, he disagreed strongly saying that the clappers never get motorcades and usually come slithering back home.

I wanted to disagree with him but got tongue-tied in the process because he was so adamant about it. Now I know why I would never make it as a lawyer, aahaha!

Anyway, the reason why I disagree is this – just because you don’t get a motorcade doesn’t mean you’re not loved. And I myself have experienced lots of love from all over – doors open to me, jobs come to me, I get invited to judge at pageants, and I get invited to shows like Bottom Line, LOLOL! If I weren’t loved then I’d be ignored! But even after I returned from Miss Universe 1985, sans honors, I still got movie offers and a regular TV sitcom job, magazine interviews (the best one was written by Boy Abunda himself), fashion shows and marriage proposals!

Anyway, when Boy Abunda finally got to do his one-on-one with Janine Tugonon, my ‘pag-hahanga‘ for her grew from the size of Mt. Fuji to the hugantic Mount Everest. She is a true role model and I hope that all young girls look to Janine Tugonon as the ideal Filipina who is beautiful inside and out. At matalino pa! Magaling sumagot. Simple magbigay ng opinyon at natural ang dating niya. I am a TOTAL fangirl of Janine Tugonon!

Some of the topics discussed:

Relevance of beauty pageants.
Don’t pageants skew the meaning of beauty?
What have beauty queens REALLY done for society?
Janine’s penchant for wearing tsinelas and taking jeepneys – faboulous or jologs?
Who did Janine’s make up in Miss Universe (it was all HER!)

Highlights of Janine’s Interview:

Her hoarse voice – she apologized and said her crazy schedule has affected her health.
Janine’s feelings of betrayal with her Father who left them (a beautiful confession).
Her belief that a marriage in trouble should be fought for.
The Gun Control Issue – she understands that some families need protection but she doesn’t need guns at home.
Does Donald Trump really get involved in choosing winners? (Yes he does!)                                                                                        Bb. Pilipinas was actually considering using a translator for Janine Tugonon.
Funny story – she was rushing to get ‘Tinapay’ for her swimsuit competition (tinapay is the term used for the little pads that give your boobs a boost) but the back stage director told her she didn’t need them because her boobs look natural and great the way they were.
Is it fair to compete with contestants have plastic surgery? (No, she’s okay with it.)
How she prefers to get things the hard way.
How her Mom kept saying – “Sabi ni Lord, mananalo ka!”
On being bullied at school – only minor incidents of name-calling.
How she dealt with all the online bashing (which was far worse than what Shamcey and Venus got)
On her boyfriend who is also being bashed for being a ‘normal guy’ – she says she loves him because he is wonderful.
Pre-Marital Sex – is it okay? (For herself, no.)
Would she ever court a guy? (Not her cup of tea.)

Now the show is going to be edited so some of the stuff I mentioned above might not be in the final cut. Hoping you can catch the program on Saturday night, January 19, 2013 at 11:30pm on ABS-CBN.
