Stella Bashers…. Read THIS!
While I disagree with the choice of Bb. Pilipinas to contract foreign designers, it pains me even more to hear the horrible things people are saying about Stella Marquez Araneta because of it. How I wish people would criticize with respect.
As I was wading through all the ‘conspiracy theories’ on SMA’s ‘real motives’, I came across this nicely written defense of her from my friend JP. And I just want to republish it here in my blog as way to remind everyone of what Stella Marquez Araneta has done for the Philippines. The words in green Italics are my reactions to JP’s thoughts. Here goes:
To all Filipino fans, I share the sadness when MJ Lastimosa did not make it to Top 5. However, I will not point fingers or blame anyone because we are not God.
Oh I wish it were that easy JP. I am guilty of finger pointing myself. Even if I know it isn’t helpful. I’m sorry now for trying to be like God, as you put it, LOL!
We cannot say that it is MJ’s fate to win Miss Universe. Yes, we want the best for her. But maybe this is the best. Doors will open for MJ. But please…a little respect to Stella Araneta. Stop the whole notion that she sabbotaged MJ. SHE DID NOT.
Actually, instead of asking people to respect her, perhaps you should ask them first to grow some brains because it certainly doesn’t make sense for her to sabotage her own franchise. BPCI is her company. It makes ZERO sense for her to ruin it because she’ll lose money and prestige.
What would she gain out of it?…that she-s Colombian? How narrow your minds are i…f you think like that. She is much a Filipino as us as she has lived here since the 60s. How quick of all of you to forget that had it not been for her, the Filipina beauty will not have made the global stage.
I am half American and I know exactly what you mean by that. I belong to the Philippines because this land is my home and it’s people are my heart.
Look around you…all the past national pageants (with the exception of Miss Philippines Earth) has lost international franchises or have simply vanished in the dust yet she kept Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. going strong. It is different from where we are because we are fans. She runs an organization. And all of us might criticize her decisions but at the end of the day her decisions work for the best of our candidates.
To be honest, I wasn’t the best of Bb. Pilipinas queens yet she was and always has been good to me. I am a recipient of her kindness!
I agree with MJ–her downfall was not her gown. I personally think she looked wonderful in it. Her figure was phenomenal in that gown. But I guess all of you may have forgotten one other ingredient to win Miss Universe (which I remember Gloria Diaz saying many times)–luck. It wasn’t the fate of MJ Lastimosa to win the crown.
Okay this is where we disagree. I don’t believe in luck. But I do believe in fate.
And as I watched the pageant, I saw the signs that it would not be for MJ (that will be a different post). People are quick to blame when there is nobody to blame. MJ said it herself–if a person did absolutely her best, there should be no regrets. And I saw that MJ did everything. But looking at the Top 10, I saw that the others had a better performance than her. It was INDEED a tough competition. MJ is walking away from her Miss Universe journey with her head held high.
I still think she would have been in the Top 5 with a better gown. But you are right, there should be no regrets specially on MJ’s part. I am just glad that most fans are criticizing the gown and not the girl.
So thank you MJ. Thank you for representing the country extremely well. To us, you are the winner. Thank you to Stella Araneta. Thank you for your passion in selecting the best Filipinas to compete in the international arena. All my RESPECT to your hard work.
I join JP’s voice in congratulating MJ Lastimosa for a job well done and thanking Stella Marquez Araneta for her hard work and passion. Though I disagree with some of her policies, I love and respect her.. She could have just given up on pageants specially during the long drought we had. But she kept on going.
And I know that even with all this bashing, she will still go on with BPCI and work harder than ever to bring honor to the Philippines. Stella Marquez Araneta is stronger than all her haters put together, LOL!
To all the fans. Let us follow MJ’s example and be CIVILIZED INDIVIDUALS. All these negativity is not helping at all and might even endanger our future standings in MU considering we have just proven how undisciplined and disrespectful we are (remember the online chats with Venezuela and Myanmar?…I won’t be surprised if that changed how MUO viewed the Filipino fans). Furthermore, all these postinga of threats and below the belt insults are examples of cyber bullying and harrassment. What if BPCI decides to file a lawsuit? Who will be in the losing end?
Well, I don’t know about that. Donald Trump loooooves controversy, so the brouhaha we have caused might have actually impressed him, AAHAHAHA!
While FB and other media is a platform for the freedom of speech, let us practice tact and respect. Only then will we become great.
As well-said as a beauty queen.
Peace in the Universe everyone!
Peace to you too JP!
